‘RHONY’ Preview: Sai Blows Up on Daisy as ‘Popcorn Ceiling’ Argument Continues

Daisy Toye is continuing to take strays over the design of her apartment (specifically the “popcorn ceilings”) on the September 29 episode of The Real Housewives of New York City. In TV Insider’s exclusive clip of the episode, she even gets into it with her close friend Sai De Silva over Passover dinner.

“Should we fix the popcorn ceilings?” Erika Hammond asks. “Should we go in and f**king scrape them and fix them?” Toye isn’t fond of the idea, and Jessel Tank wonders, “Does veryone have popcorn ceilings in the building?”

This prompts Toye to explain that “nobody” else has the old style of ceilings. “We’ve been there for 25 years,” she points out. “Eugene [Toye’s] been there. But we pay, like, $300 in rent.”

Carole Radziwill admits it’s a “dream to have a rent stabilized apartment,” and in a confessional, Erin Lichy explains, “New York City real estate is insanely expensive. A rent controlled apartment means your rent has to stay the same. So let’s say in 1985 you got an apartment for $1,000 a month, it would still be $1,000 now. So having this is the most coveted thing you could have. You just don’t give that up. I would trade [my husband] for a rent controlled apartment.”

When De Silva says she would “love a rent controlled apartment,” Toye is not convinced. “Sai, you would never live in a rent controlled apartment,” she claims, but De Silva insists, “Yes I would.”

“She would never,” Toye continues. “She’d be like, ‘Where’s the amenities? Where’s my sauna?'” It’s that comment that sets De Silva off.

“This is my first time having amenities,” she points out. “I am in bliss, happiness, heaven. I love my f**king building. Is it expensive that I’m busting my ass to pay for? Yes, and I’m proud I can provide that s**t for my godd**n family at the end of the day. That has nothing to do with a godd**n rent stabilized, popcorn f**king ceiling, apartment.”

Lichy is blown away by the response, noting in a confessional, “This is your best friend. What is happening here?” Meanwhile, Toye says, “I’m nobody to talk about how to spend your money, but her rent is, like, $25,000. I mean, what’s happening in your marriage? You don’t know where you’re going to be in the next six months. S**t’s changing and it’s changing quickly.”
