‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Nikolas Polsinelli Has Daily Double Disaster – Did He Survive?

A Jeopardy! contestant had a Daily Double disaster that led to another taking the lead. Did the returning champion survive another game?

Nikolas Polsinelli, from Winter Park, Florida, entered his third game with a two-day total of $40,001. On September 28, the student played against Katie Bruns, from Dayton, Ohio, and Justin Robbins, from Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Warning: Spoilers for the Monday, September 28, episode of Jeopardy! ahead!

Robbins, a graduate student, found the Daily Double on clue five. He had the lead with $1,000 and wagered all of his money.

The clue in “Transportation” was “It’s what the ‘M’ stood for in the names of ships like the RMS Titanic & the RMS Majestic.” “What is majesties?” he answered incorrectly. Robbins dropped down to $0 since the correct response was Mail.

By the end of the round, he maintained the lead with $6,800. Bruns, a record and information professional, had $5,000. Polsinelli was in third place with $2,400.

In Double Jeopardy, Polsinelli moved to second place when he found the first DD on clue eight. He had $5,200 and wagered $3,000.

In “Creatures that Start with ‘Sea,'” the clue read, “Also called an actiniarian, this animal was named for a flower.” “What is a sea lily?” he answered after being prompted. Polsinelli was wrong and dropped to $2,200. The correct response was a sea anemone.

Only two clues later, he found the last DD. With $3,400 in his bank, Polsinelli wagered all of his money.

The clue in “Side Hustlers” read, “His side hustles included doing PR work for a Glasgow steelworks; the owner helped pay for the 1st trip he led to Antarctica.” “Who is Shackleton?” Polsinelli answered correctly.

This moved him to second place with $6,800. Robbins had $11,200.

By the end of the round, Robbins led with $19,600. Polsinelli remained in second place with $10,000. Bruns had $5,400.

The category for Final Jeopardy was “Former Currencies.” The clue read, “Introduced in 1663, this unit of currency got its name because the gold it was first minted with was from Africa’s west coast.”

Two of the game show contestants had the correct response. Bruns wrote “What is the ?” She wagered $5,300, giving her $100.

Both Polsinelli and Robbins had the correct response of “What is a guinea?” Polsinelli wagered everything, making his final total $20,000. Robbins’ wager of $401 put him right over the top with $20,0001.

Robbins will return on Tuesday for his second game.
