‘Little People, Big World’: Breaking Down Matt & Jacob Roloff’s Family Drama

It’s been more than two years since Little People, Big World came to an end, but the Roloff family is making headlines once again due to new allegations made about Matthew Roloff by his youngest son, Jacob Roloff.

Jacob was just 9 years old when his family’s reality series took off in 2006, but he left the show 10 years later, stating, “The family that is filmed is not my family. They are the Roloff characters and I have scarcely anything in common with them, nor do I want to be a character myself.”

Following his departure at age 18, Jacob moved to California to experience anonymity, but he, his wife, Isabel, and their son, Mateo, eventually moved back to Roloff Farm in Oregon. However, just months later, the move has resulted in a feud between Jacob and his father. Scroll down for more.

Why did Jacob Roloff return to the farm?

In 2024, Matt invited Jacob and his family to return to the farm. Jacob told People in July 2026 that the soil on Roloff Farm is part of the reason he came back. “This is the best soil on Earth,” he explained. “I had a coworker [in California] that visited me back here and he basically was like, ‘Why are you wasting all that land? You should be there.'”

Jacob, Isabel, and Jacob’s cousin, Max, started running the 70-acre property, which consisted of a pumpkin farm and 60 animals.

What happened between Jacob and Matt Roloff?

Jacob publicly claimed that his father, who has been trying to sell a portion of the farm for years, has been keeping him in the dark about the farm’s finances. “I just literally want to pay the bills and I want to know what those bills are, if they are structured the right way,” he explained.

A fan noted that Matt should feel comfortable giving his son “access and ability to run the farm,” and the former TLC star claimed he was called “entitled” for thinking he could run the operations.

He also alleged that his father refuses to admit that LPBW was the reason for the farm’s success. “It’s a wonder that the farm seems to have had no off-ramp to the show ending, and then 4 wasted years of betting on The Name, and nothing else, and now it may be too late for any fix,” he replied to one commenter.

Jacob said he and Isabel wanted to “distinguish” their pumpkin patch “beyond the show” and also start “growing out own corn, doing a corn maze and things like that.” However, he said they “couldn’t really get there with management.”

At one point, Jacob even threatened a “labor stoppage” after Matt allegedly asked him “what I actually do around here.” He said he only makes about $28,000 a year for working on the farm, having accepted a lower wage to help save the family business money. Plus, he claimed that about 30% of that money goes back to his dad for rent.

Jacob insinuated that his father is more focused on trying to make the land sellable than he is on making a profit from the pumpkin business. “Basically to the detriment of these pumpkins and the harvesting time, we beautified a speculative asset, real estate asset,” he said. “Those are the sorts of contradictory priorities that I just don’t understand, I guess. Maybe I’m business-ignorant, but we’re doing a pumpkin season, it seems pretty smart to invest in getting the pumpkins harvested … but if I speak, I’m in trouble.”

Is Jacob Roloff leaving the farm?

Jacob has hinted that he will be leaving the farm this January after the 2026 pumpkin season. “I likely will not be here past January,” he commented.

In a separate post, Jacob alleged that his dad is kicking him off the property because of weeds growing on the farm.

“I weed this every once in a while, but I don’t want to waste all my time doing that sort of stuff when you could just weed whip it right before an event,” Jacob explained. “Or weed whip it every two months instead of every two weeks. Oh, and I haven’t mowed our front lawn in a while. It looks OK. It’s long, but it looks OK. This is the type of stuff that’s getting me kicked out because apparently it looks like s**t.”

In the caption of his post, Jacob explained that he’s not motivated to keep the lawn looking pristine because he’s “overworked” and “underpaid” and also noted that he “has other things to do that just precludes the idea we can have French manicured lawns and edgeways.”

He also said he doesn’t want to spray a weed killer because he’s worried that it could affect his son’s health.
