Mark Consuelos Announces ‘Major Surgery’ in ‘Live’ Health Update

Mark Consuelos announced that he is undergoing “major surgery” in an unexpected health update on Live With Kelly and Mark.

On Friday, September 25, Consuelos, 55 — who co-hosts the ABC talk show with his wife of 30 years, Kelly Ripa — revealed he would have a procedure done right after the show.

“Today’s the day,” Consuelos declared. “I’ve been putting off this toe surgery for about a year.” Later, he clarified that the issue was connected to his arthritis. “It’s bad,” he said. “I need help. Yeah, it hurts.”

Ripa, also 55, shared that she would accompany her spouse to the surgery. “I’m not resisting the opportunity to video capture you coming out of your propofol haze,” she quipped.

To that, Consuelos admitted, “That’s right. People say some funny, funny things,” prompting Ripa to point out, “I have you on video from your last foot surgery.”

Additionally, Consuelos acknowledged that he felt “a little loopy” before going under the knife, as he had been fasting for a day leading up to surgery.

“I’ve never heard of fasting for 24 hours before a surgery,” Ripa said. “It’s dumb. I just want to eat!” Consuelos lamented. “I can be convinced to eat at any moment!”

At a different point on the show, a member of the audience shared that they had to fast for a day before surgery, but for a groin procedure.

“Oh, groin, that’s a big one,” Ripa said. “He’s having a toe surgery!” To that, Consuelos corrected her, proclaiming, “It’s my big toe!”

“Basically, he’s having a pedicure,” Ripa joked.

“No, I’m not!” the indignant host insisted. “This is a major surgery. It’s like a C-section for your toe.”
