‘Wheel of Fortune’: Did a Contestant Who Doesn’t Have a Driver’s License Win a Car?
Did Wheel of Fortune give away a car to a man who can’t drive it? One contestant was worried he would win the car when he didn’t have a driver’s license. How did the game turn out?
Tony Oriente, from Media, Pennsylvania, played against Tamonica Tyler, from Waco, Texas, and Robbyn Weaver, from Plymouth, Minnesota, on September 24. Oriente, a theater lover who doesn’t have a driver’s license, solved both Toss-ups. He said that if he wins the car, he might have to get his license after decades of not having it.
Tyler, a woman who is competitive in family game nights, obtained a trip wedge and the Wild Card, and tried to solve “Can We See the Desert Heat?” but was wrong. Oriente then solved “May We See the Dessert Cart?” for $4,000.
Tyler lost both wedges in the next round when she landed on Bankrupt. Oriente solved most of the Crossword Puzzle in “Gone Fishin’,” but guessed a wrong letter, so the turn moved to the other contestants. Weaver, a senior molecular biologist and bird enthusiast, solved “Net, Tackle, Hook, Worms” for $2,100.
Oriente solved “I’ll Stay a Few Extra Days” for a trip to Vancouver Island. This gave him the lead with $11,011. He solved one of the Triple Toss-ups while Waever solved the other two.
Oriente advanced to the Bonus Round when he solved the final puzzle — “Time to Face the Music.” This gave him $25,011. He chose “What Are You Doing?” for the category. Waver went home with $6,100. Taylor was given $1,000 by the game show since she didn’t win anything.
“Let’s see if you get the car,“ host Ryan Seacrest said.
Wheel of Fortune gave Oriente “R,S,T,L,N, and E.” He rounded out his puzzle with “G,M,F, and O.”
The puzzle then looked like “S_N_ _RON_ _ _NG O_R _ _T_ _ES.” He didn’t guess anything, but the puzzle was “Synchronizing Our Watches.” There was $40,000 in the envelope, which would have given him $65,011. Luckily, the car wasn’t in the envelope.
