‘Wheel of Fortune’: Ryan Seacrest Has Sweet Response After Contestant’s Tearful $76,000 Win
A Wheel of Fortune contestant got emotional after winning $76,000. He dedicated his win to his grandfather, and got a sweet response from host Ryan Seacrest.
Moe Moultrie, from Wilmington, North Carolina, solved one Fortune Frenzy on October 29. The father of three, who likes bowling, played against Adam George, from Boston, Massachusetts, and Caroline Rogers, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Moultrie solved “Demons, Dragons, and Dracula” for the “Same Letter” puzzle. He took the lead with $3,800.
During the next round, George, a man who lived three blocks from Stephen King when he was a kid, obtained the wild card and solved most of the letters in the puzzle. However, he landed on Bankrupt, and the turn moved to Rogers, a Halloween enthusiast, who solved “Do Do That Voodoo That You Do So Well.” She had $3,500.
Moultrie rode the Express Train for the next puzzle and solved “That Sounds Exhilarating!” He won a trip to Mexico, giving him a bigger lead with $24,624.
All three game show contestants solved one Triple Toss-up each, putting an extra $2,000 in each of their banks. Moultrie solved the final puzzle — “Professional Magician.” This gave him a final score of $31,724.
Rogers left with $5,500. George took home $5,000. Moultrie chose “Fun & Games.”
He brought his wife, Jessica, with him. When host Ryan Seacrest asked if he was ready to “get down to business,” Moultrie was still staring at his wife. “Not that kind of business,” Seacrest said. “Focus on the gameplay, please. I know you’re distracted.”
When the game show contestant finally looked at the host, he laughed and said, “Fun and games, this guy.” This made Moultrie laugh.
Wheel of Fortune gave him “R,S,T,L,N, and E.” He chose “C,D,M, and A.” This made his puzzle look like “R_ _ _ER C_ _C_EN.”
Moultrie quickly solved “Rubber Chicken.” There was $45,000 in the envelope, which gave him a total of $76,724.
At the end of the show, Moultrie had a tear running down his face and said he dedicated his win to his grandfather, who loved watching Wheel of Fortune. Seacrest took the contestant’s hand and said he was “watching after him.”
