‘MobLand’s Pierce Brosnan & Helen Mirren on ‘Shooting From the Hip’ in Season 2

After establishing their characters in MobLand‘s first season, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren didn’t have to spend any time explaining who the Harrigans are in Season 2’s premiere — well, except for that one time when Conrad told the petrified waiter exactly who’d just shot up everyone in the suite.

“It was a great adventure,” Mirren told TV Insider of the chance to slip right back into Maeve’s sassy wardrobe and demeanor. “In Season 1, we really didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into. And as we did the work, the whole tone of the piece developed and didn’t change [in Season 2] but became more so.”

As prepared as the returning actors were, after making such a splash with their counterparts in the inaugural run, the fact that the scripts came in so close to production meant it was still a thrill.

As Brosnan put it, “They did come in late, which kind of puts you on edge, somewhat, and it really means you have to shoot from the hip. You have to make quick decisions. But we already had Season 1, as Helen says, under our belt, so it became this long fever dream of playing these characters. Sometimes you come off set, and you think, ‘What did I just do?!'”

Added Mirren, “It was an adventure into the unknown, and very exciting.”

Brosnan and Mirren have worked together consistently for the better part of three years, doing production for both seasons of MobLand and The Thursday Murder Club, and the two admitted that they’ve become something of a family on set as a result.

“I love working with Pierce,” Mirren said of their dynamic. “And actually the whole cast of MobLand, there is a very familial feeling about everything.”
