Lawrence O’Donnell Says Trump Is Filled With ‘Uncontrollable Jealousy’ Over One Specific Person

MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell laid into Donald Trump on Monday’s (September 21) episode of The Last Word, saying the president is filled with “uncontrollable jealousy” toward one particular beloved political figure.

O’Donnell was discussing Trump’s ban on the press, which includes MS NOW, when he said that the president has a history of “explicit expressions of hatred against named individuals.” He added that the hatred that consumes Trump the most is “for someone who is no longer with us, someone who fills him with the most painful feeling he can ever experience: jealousy.”

The veteran news anchor said this jealousy gives Trump a sense of “horrible inadequacy,” knowing that “someone is better than he is, smarter than he is, wiser than he is, more thoughtful, more articulate… even more attractive.”

O’Donnell stated that person was former president John Fitzgerald Kennedy, “a Harvard graduate who had won the Pulitzer Prize as an author before winning the presidency. Jack Kennedy won the presidency with a winning margin of less than 1% of the vote.”

He added, “And so it’s safe to assume that half the country were not exactly Kennedy fans during his presidency. But the most fervent supporters of JFK were like the most fervent supporters of the greatest musical stars of that era: Frank Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles.”

O’Donnell said when JFK was assassinated in 1963, mourning for his death “transcended party.” He continued, “Donald Trump in New York City that day would have seen the crying; he’d have seen people coming home from work crying, men carrying tools crying, NYC police officers in uniform crying.”

“Donald Trump knows the emotional spell JFK cast on the nation in death,” he went on. “He saw the public schools being renamed after President Kennedy. He saw New York’s biggest airport being renamed after JFK. He saw streets all over the country change their names.”

O’Donnell said all of this is why Trump wants the Kennedy Center “ripped down” if he can’t get his name added to the venue. This follows a federal judge again blocking the Center’s board of trustees from adding Trump’s name to the building last week.

“All of those commemorations are why Donald Trump hates John F. Kennedy,” O’Donnell stated. “Because John F. Kennedy, in the reflection of history, has been commemorated with love, and that now fills Donald Trump with uncontrollable jealousy.”
