It’s been 30 years of Judge Judy, and not just on her own show. In fact, when Samuel L. Jackson hosted in 1998, the one thing he wanted to do involved the iconic personality, he shares in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Tuesday, September 22, special on CBS for the anniversary, Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable.
“I’ve only hosted Saturday Night Live once. I insisted that we do a Judge Judy skit. I was playing Ordell from Jackie Brown,” he shares, referring to his role in the 1997 film.
Clips show that sketch as well as Cheri Oteri, who played Judge Judy in the SNL sketches, sharing what Judy Sheindlin thought of her impression on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “Judge Judy called my office, and she said, ‘You tell [her] that she’s almost got me.’”

Sheindlin even joined Oteri in one of the sketches in October 1998. “It wasn’t a surprise to me because I sensed that Judy had a very good sense of humor about herself,” says Amy Poehler in our clip. Watch the video above for more, including SNL clips.
CBS’s 90-minute primetime special celebrating the 30th anniversary of the courtroom series, Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable, airs Tuesday, September 22, at 8/7c on CBS. It features interviews with Hollywood A-listers, including Amy Poehler, RuPaul, Samuel L. Jackson, Sherry Lansing, and Steven Spielberg, as well as with Judge Judy’s son, Judge Adam Levy, and other family members, lifelong friends, former colleagues, litigants, and people whose lives she touched through the years.
Sheindlin also tells her story in her own words, from her childhood in Brooklyn to the New York City Family Court, which is where she became known as one of the toughest judges in the country before leading the most successful courtroom series in syndicated history. Plus, the special includes never-before-seen home movies.
Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable is produced by See It Now Studios. John R. Green, Susan Zirinsky, and Terence Wrong executive produce. Gary Rosen is a consulting producer, David Perozzi serves as senior producer, and Aysu Saliba and Cara Tortora are supervising producers.
