‘Big Brother 28’: Barrett Pfeiffer Reveals What Made Him Turn on the Crossovers

Barrett Pfeiffer might have been the gentle giant of Big Brother 28, but he walked out like a lion. He was the first Houseguest evicted of the night after Double Eviction night shook up the house.

Throughout his season, he was closely aligned with Drew Campbell, Melody Morris, and Mallory Aurichio. He also formed alliances with the icons — Season 26’s Angela Murray, Survivor‘s Dee Valladares, and Rick Devens. He was also part of the bigger Moshpit alliance. However, he felt like he was at the bottom of the alliance.

When the jumbotron engineer finally gained power in week nine, he decided to take a shot at the icons. He got Murray out, despite her not being his target. Dee and Devens were now coming for him.

Barrett found himself on the block the following week after Yash Patel won HOH and couldn’t put up the icons due to his Bribe deal. In a three-to-one vote, with Drew voting him out, Barrett became the third member of the Jury.

Here is what he had to say about his time in the house.

You and Drew were close, but he burned you a few times. Did you ever think of going against him? Why or why not?

Barrett Pfeiffer: Yes. One million percent. Practically, every day I was considering cutting ties with the Middle Men Alliance. Even right before Jury started, we were considering voting out Drew if he did not win the Blockbuster against Mallory or Taylor [Brown]. Working with Drew is like considering every day, “Am I going to get rid of this guy?” because he’s all over the place. He’s everywhere. He’s telling everybody what they want to hear. At the end of the day, you want to be like, “I do kind of need you here for now, so I guess I’ll keep you around.”

For sure, if I needed to cut Drew to save my game, I absolutely would’ve gotten rid of him.

You took a shot at the icons on your HOH, but did you ever consider staying loyal to the Crossover until the end?

Yes, absolutely. I would have stayed loyal to the Crossover until the end if the circumstances allowed it. I was fully loyal to them until Dee’s second HOH, when she put up Mallory as the replacement nominee and went against the Moshpit Alliance. Once I learned that she made a deal with Yash behind my back, of course, that turned into a deal with all of the icons behind my back; I knew they were not to be trusted for my game anymore. Taking them to the end would have, I think, made me look like a fool.

Not that you know the full extent of Yash’s Bribe, do you think that helped or hurt his game?

I think the Bribe hurt Yash’s game. Yash is somebody who can absolutely fend for himself in the game of Big Brother. The guy can literally win every single competition. Going around saying, “I want to get rid of the icons,” being anti-icons on them, wanting to declare war on them, while the entire time having a deal with them is not something that is going to help his case if he ends up in one of the final two seats, so I think it’s only going to hurt him.

Being a superfan of the game, do you have any regrets or anything you would change about your game?

I don’t have any regrets with how I played this game. I knew I wanted to go in and have everyone see me as the little innocent caterpillar when the time was right, and that’s exactly what I did. I knew the risk that I was taking might end up with me going home the very next week. I knew that immediately when I put up the icons, so no.

As a superfan, I lived my dream. I got to play in every single cool competition. I got to wear all the goofy costumes. I got to play with Angela Murray, Rick Devens, and Dee Valladares. I have no complaints as a guy who has watched the show since he was eight years old. I think anybody who is in my shoes, or any superfan who has been for that long, would have this as their dream and then some. It certainly was mine.
