What To Know

  • Kody Brown and his wife Robyn are leaving TLC’s Sister Wives after 16 years.
  • The shocking news was revealed in the new trailer for the show’s 21st season.
  • Season 21 will focus on the lives of Kody’s former wives, Christine, Janelle, and Meri.

Sister Wives is going to look a lot different when it returns for its 21st season as polygamist Kody Brown and his wife Robyn Brown have exited the show after 16 years.

The shocking news was revealed in the new trailer for the TLC reality series, which dropped on Monday, September 14. “After 16 years of filming Sister Wives, Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show,” reads a title card at the start of the teaser.

Kody’s former wives Christine, Janelle, and Meri, react in disbelief to the news. “I don’t know what it means. I have no idea,” Christine says, while Janelle adds, “I was flabbergasted, really, when I got the news.”

Meri adds, “I was actually surprised when I was told that Kody and Robyn weren’t coming back to the show.”

Kody saw his polygamist lifestyle fall apart over the past few years as three of his four wives ended up leaving him. First, in November 2021, his third wife, Christine, called it quits; this was followed by breakups with his second wife, Janelle, in December 2022, and his first wife, Meri, in January 2023.

Robyn is Kody’s fourth wife and the only one who remains in the marriage. Throughout the series, which has aired since 2010, tension has spread between Robyn and the other wives. Robyn was often accused of receiving special treatment from Kody.

“I feel like anytime Kody makes a choice and they don’t like it, I get blamed,” Robyn said in a 2024 episode. “There’s this new concept that I have Kody just wrapped around my little finger and I’m doing evil spells on him, and [it’s] ridiculous.”

As the trailer reveals, the new season will focus on the post-Kody lives of Christine, Janelle, and Meri. This includes Janelle and Meri attempting to patch up their differences regarding a land ownership dispute. Fans will also follow Christine’s relationship with David Woolley, whom she married in 2023, as well as Janelle’s new romance with a man named Pete.

Kody and Robyn have yet to comment on why they’re no longer part of the long-running reality series. Recently, Kody appeared as a contestant on Season 4 of the Fox reality competition series Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
