What To Know

  • The new key art for 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 features Chris O’Donnell’s character surrounded by murder hornets.
  • This fall kicks off a major case for Ryan Phillippe’s new character involving a chilling villain.

Well, this is a somewhat familiar picture for the world of 9-1-1 … just taken to a whole new, buzzy level.

TV Insider can exclusively debut the new key art for 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2, and it reminds us of the major emergency that kicked off the eighth season of the original series in the franchise (the beenado that led into Angela Bassett‘s Athena landing a plane). The poster features Chris O’Donnell‘s Captain Don Hart, with his face being covered by a mass of murder hornets?! What exactly is the 113 going to be dealing with when the spinoff returns on Thursday, October 15?! Well, simply put: Exactly what you’d expect from a 9-1-1 season opener. (The franchise knows how to do those emergencies so well.)

While we don’t know much about the new season, we do know that it’s going to be introducing an additional series regular character in new cast member Ryan Phillippe‘s Detective Rogue — and details from showrunner Rashad Raisani seem to suggest that whatever’s going on with those murder hornets is connected to his major case.

ABC

“The first episode back, the biggest thrust of it is one is we introduce our new series co-lead, Ryan Phillippe. He’s going to be this East Coast homicide detective. He’s come to Nashville because things were very dark in New York. He saw a lot of bad stuff,” Raisani teases. “And so he came here to kind of slow down and he ends up in the case of his life.”

He continues, “We’re going to bring in a villain into our show that will give us some of that same heft that those big set pieces that we traditionally get from hurricanes and floods and lava and whatever. This person is creating the plagues of the Bible to punish Nashville.”

Murder hornets taking over certainly seems to fit that description!

What are you hoping to see as Season 2 begins, both with these plagues and in general? Let us know in the comments section below.
