‘Ludwig’ Christmas Special Adds ‘Poirot’s David Suchet — With a Killer Twist

Nothing says Christmas quite like twinkling lights, a cozy hotel, a raging blizzard, and, naturally, murder.

BritBox will deck the halls with the help of John “Ludwig” Taylor (David Mitchell), as Ludwig will debut a Christmas special this holiday season featuring an all-star cast.

Set in Yorkshire, the hour-long Christmas episode will see the Taylors arrive at a remote Christmas-themed hotel when a sudden blackout turns the festive celebration into a locked-room murder mystery. With a roaring blizzard outside and Ludwig and his friends cut off from the outside world, they must spend the night at the lodging despite knowing that somewhere in one of the rooms, there is a killer.

The special will bring back Ludwig regulars David Mitchell as Ludwig, Anna Maxwell Martin as Lucy Betts-Taylor, Dylan Hughes as Henry Betts-Taylor, and Dipo Ola as DCI Russell Carter. Joining them for the holiday mystery are guest stars Sir David Suchet, Jason Flemyng, Joe Wilkinson, Cathy Tyson, Alexandra Roach, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Rebekah Staton, Claire Price, Ariella Glaser, and George Rainsford.

Suchet is in for a particularly fun role reversal. After famously spending decades solving murders as Hercule Poirot, the actor will find himself on the other side of the investigation as one of the Christmas special’s murder suspects.

“It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside David Mitchell and the wonderful ensemble cast,” he said in a statement. “It made quite the refreshing change to be playing a suspect rather than the detective, and to sit comfortably in my armchair while David delivered the denouement. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time.”

Season 2 of Ludwig will debut on BritBox on October 13, with episodes dropping weekly. Season 3 is currently in production.
