‘Ludwig’ Sneak Peek: John Meets Stephen Merchant’s Snotty Snooker Player

Stephen Merchant makes his debut as cocky snooker champion Danny Sloane in Ludwig Season 2 Episode 4, and he meets David Mitchell‘s John “Ludwig” Taylor in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek at the episode above. Snooker is a billiards game similar to pool that’s popular in the United Kingdom, and famous puzzle setter Ludwig is convinced that the game must be easy.

Ludwig Season 2 Episode 4 comes out on BritBox on November 3. Mitchell and Merchant are old friends, the star previously told TV Insider, and he was “very excited” to have him on the show about the expert puzzle setter who uses his skills to find a missing detective/his twin brother.

“He was terrific and funny and sinister,” Mitchell told us. “His episode is set in the world of — it’s not as popular a sport in America as it is here — Snooker. The game’s played on a billiard table, which is much televised over here. And he was a big star, his character’s a big Snooker star several decades earlier. The mystery in that episode centers around the recreation of a great Snooker clash of 20 years earlier and is in the context of a bitter rivalry between two players in the insular world of this sport.”

In the video above, Danny meets Ludwig’s team — DI Russell Carter (Dipo Ola), Ethan Cole (Ben Ashenden), and Caitlin Sullivan (Rumi Sutton) — and he’s not happy to be speaking with the authorities.

“Oh, I know it’s a crime scene, pal. I was here when it happened,” Danny tells Ethan and Caitlin. “If there’s any fingerprints to leave, I’ve already left them.”

“Perhaps it’s best not to leave anymore then,” Caitlin replies, not having any time for his attitude, but Danny continues with his ornery outlook when acting like he can’t hear her. “You what, love? What’d she say?” he says.

In come Russell and John. Danny, despite saying he’s eager to go home, is lingering on the premises of the crime scene even after he has given his statement to the police.
