Colin Jost and Pete Davidson bought a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry for $280,100 in 2022 and have lived with the regret ever since as they try to figure out what to do with it.
The Saturday Night Live stars initially had plans to turn the John F. Kennedy into a $34 million multi-functional venue, including hotel rooms, two restaurants, six bars, and an outdoor event space. However, this proved more costly and time-consuming than both men imagined.
Now, though, Jost and David finally have a plan for the boat, at least temporarily. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the pair will turn the John F. Kennedy into the Snapple Island Ferry, a floating comedy club docked at Pier 17 in Lower Manhattan. The one-off event will take place on Thursday, September 17, and be free to attend.
The duo will host the event, sponsored by the beverage brand Snapple, which will include a 60-minute show featuring sets from a lineup of rising comedians. Limited tickets will be released daily at 3 pm ET from September 3 to September 8 at register.snappleislandferry.com.
“Turning the ferry into a floating comedy club with Snapple makes more sense than anything else we considered, and it still doesn’t make much sense,” Davidson said in a statement. “Either way, we’re giving people a chance to take a break, have a laugh and do something completely ridiculous with us.”

In his video, Jost stood in front of a painting of the RMS Lusitania, the British ocean liner that sank during World War I. “Another boat that famously turned out great,” the Pop Culture Jeopardy! host quipped.

The lineup of comedians taking part in the event has yet to be announced.
Jost and Davidson previously joked about buyer’s remorse over the pricey ferry purchase. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2023, Davidson admitted he and his business partner were “in the hole,” explaining, “I saw a link and sent a deposit, and now I’m stuck with a f***ing boat. It’s really funny, dude. This will be a lifelong problem for me and Colin.”
Appearing on SNL‘s Weekend Update last November, Davidson quipped, “In case you’re wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we’re losing millions on this ferry.”
