‘NCIS’ Season 24 Trailer: The New Tony Shocks McGee in Michael Weatherly’s Return

“It’s a new me,” Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) tells Tim McGee (Sean Murray) after Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) — confirming he survives that cliffhanger — recalls a story he’s heard about the former very special agent in the NCIS Season 24 trailer. The new episodes premiere in their usual time slot of Tuesdays at 8/7c, on October 6. Joining the series this season that night are the new spinoff New York and the prequel Origins.

Yes, Weatherly is back for a season-long arc as Tony DiNozzo, no longer an NCIS agent, as the trailer reminds us pretty soon after he’s introduced. He’s on the elevator with McGee and Torres and remarks, “Oh, the orange walls, very special non-agent Anthony DiNozzo is back.” It’s a great call-back to his reaction to those same walls when, in a flashback in Season 8’s “Baltimore,” he took the first steps to join the agency.

But Tony’s not just here for the quips. There’s some sort of security breach, as LaRoche (Seamus Dever) brings up, and Tony is mentioned in that conversation. Given that Tony now runs his own security firm, it does make sense that he’d be part of that storyline.

Could that also be related to something that Tony brings up to McGee later on in the preview? “Something bad is coming down the pike. Very bad. Some very smart people are very worried about it,” Tony warns.

The trailer also shows Palmer (Brian Dietzen) wanting to celebrate a new era at NCIS and offering everyone cake … which does not go over well with Parker (Gary Cole). “I’m the morning sweets guy. You trying to muscle in on my territory?” he reminds the chief ME, then cuts the festivities short with news of a dead body.
