What To Know

  • Erin Napier announced she has written a brand-new children’s book.
  • The novel is a follow-up to her 2022 book, The Lantern House.
  • Erin and Ben Napier are currently filming Season 11 of HGTV’s Home Town.

Erin Napier is getting into the holiday spirit early with her latest off-screen project.

In a Tuesday, August 18, Instagram post, Napier revealed that she has penned a festive new children’s book. “I have a new book coming. It’ll be in stores everywhere soon, but it’s a companion to The Lantern House that Adam Trest and I have been working on for the last year or so,” she told her followers while showing off the cover for The Christmas House. “And it’s about how our Christmas traditions keep the people we love alive forever, and about how our houses are the keepers of our traditions at Christmas, and our houses know everything about the things that are special to us at that time of year. So, it’s extremely special.”

Erin noted that if fans pre-order the book through her and Ben Napier‘s Laurel Mercantile store, they will receive a signed copy from her and Trest, who illustrated the novel. “It should be in stores everywhere October 6, so you can pick one up at your local bookstore, online, anywhere you like to buy books,” she stated. “So, Merry Christmas!”

In the post’s caption, Erin said she and Trest “got deep into our feelings” while working on the follow-up to her 2022 children’s book, The Lantern House. “For every child who is ready to decorate on November 1 and every adult who is missing someone irreplaceable at Christmas time,” she added.

Fans shared their excitement in the post’s comments. “Love this message. My parents passed and the traditions and memories of Christmases past are what keeps them with me every holiday. As an only child, it’s hard to be the only one still around who remembers,” one person wrote. Another said, “I just ordered one! I also have The Lantern House. I keep it in my classroom and read it to my students.”

Someone else shared, “My family unexpectedly lost my Dad 6 days before Christmas this past year. The tree, outdoor lights, games and traditions were everything to him. I preordered this with tears rolling down my cheeks. I can’t wait to share this with my daughters in memory of their Papa. Thank you for this Erin.” A different person posted, “First Christmas without my mama. I’m so thankful for the traditions she carried on and now I get to. Preordering now!”

In an interview with People published on Tuesday, Erin said that keeping Christmas traditions alive is important to her and Ben. The HGTV couple share daughters Helen and Mae.

“They LIVE for decorating the house,” she shared. “The thing that feels so good about it that my children don’t yet have the language for, is when we do these traditions year after year we are bringing our childhoods back to the surface, we are celebrating the people we don’t have anymore by making their recipes and hanging their stockings, and our houses are the center of all of this.”

News of Erin’s holiday children’s book comes as she and Ben are filming Season 11 of HGTV’s Home Town. “When is more Home Town coming? Soon! We just came back to filming from our summer break,” she wrote alongside behind-the-scenes photos and clips from production via Instagram on August 1. “This is a typical day during filming, which runs year round. We have an incredible sitter who is with the girls when we are at work (she was my favorite babysitter when she was a teenager) and my parents fill in too.”
