Bill Maher Eviscerates Democrats: ‘Whiteness’ Is ‘Not a Disease’

On the Friday, August 7 episode of his HBO show, the late-night host, 70, took aim at Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong. He called out the Democratic Socialist, who has a mixed-race child, for her remarks about her “proximity to whiteness.”
“Look at this Francesca Hong. I mentioned it in the monologue, what she said about whiteness and toxicity,” Maher said. “She described her son. Now, she has an ex-husband who is white, OK, she’s Asian. She described it as wrestling with — this is her own son — being in ‘proximity to whiteness.'”
Maher then pointed out, “Of all the things I think the Democrats have to lose, number one: Whiteness, it’s not a disease… This has got to go, I think. I think this is their big flaw.”
In 2021, Hong said during an interview, “My proximity to whiteness continues, right? My son is biracial. He is half white and half Korean. And I think navigating, you know, what his identity is and how people perceive him is always at the back of my mind.”
On Real Time, Maher continued, “Who is the Democrat who’s going to stand up and say, ‘I’m a white guy. I’m not a racist because I don’t think white people are worse.’ We’re all the same. Humans are not good people. They just aren’t. We’ve all done horrible things.”
The stand-up comedian also slammed the left for Hong’s controversial stance on Thanksgiving during his opening monologue.
“Democrats have found a candidate who hates Thanksgiving and wants to get rid of it,” Maher said, referencing her now-deleted X post from 2020. “Yes, running for governor in Wisconsin, Francesca Hong. Have you heard about this? Yeah, Thanksgiving, she says, should be canceled.”
He then quipped, “I say good. Finally, a politician willing to stand up to big stuffing. Wow. Oh, you gotta love the Democrats.”

Only white men his age feel this way. I’m a white male, 46, and I don’t see this at all in the Dem party. What’s wrong with having diverse candidates? What’s wrong with having women candidates? I was raised properly by my mother and father, to respect all people, and know that all people are capable of greatness. If Dems across the country elect all women or POC, so what? The people decided. That’s who they want. Who am I to cry about it? I want universal healthcare, an end to wars, inflation lowered, prices lowered, affordable housing, lower home owner’s insurance, good jobs, and something that will counter the AI job mess, a universal income. It’s possible. The military doesn’t need trillions of dollars when $50 drones are doing damage against the “greatest” military on Earth. Give that money back to the people.
One more point. I did my DNA. It’s a hodgepodge of ethnicities from many Euro countries, some surprising ones in the Middle East, and some Inuit. I’m ghastly white, like Casper. Lol. But yet, my DNA says I’m not as white as I appear and so what? Being white isn’t a superpower. It means my ancestors were in climates long enough that we lost our melanin. Bill Maher needs to touch grass.

Bill Maher has never met a straw dog he doesn't want to adopt. I get that the right (Republicans, Fox News, etc.) would love for there to be an actual position of any leadership in the party to act like the bogeyman crazies that extoll these views ... but there simply isn't. Yes, we Democrats do support diversity, but I've been a local party leader in Pennsylvania for the last decade and have NEVER heard that expressed in the way Maher claims. Can one find an individual somewhere who says something nutty like "whiteness is a disease"? Sure. So what? It has nothing to do with any actual platform or party position. And I challenge Maher or anyone else to find the legislation or platform that says anything like that.
BTW: I'm an old white guy, just a whisper older than Maher. I don't dislike him because he thinks differently than I do ... or because he had dinner with Trump. I don't think he's funny. I think his perspectives are tainted by profound ignorance with a healthy dose of lazy self-aggrandizing selfishness.
