David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen just shared the stage for the first time since Eddie Van Halen‘s death.
On July 30, the original members of Van Halen reunited at a TEDxFargo event in Fargo, North Dakota. Robert Vargas took to Instagram on July 31 to tease the reunion and share a photo of himself with David and Alex.
“Good vibrations only,” he captioned the update. “Our historic TEDxFargo talk @alexvanhalenofficial @therobertvargas @davidleeroth is now filmed and in the vault! Three icons, one conversation. Talking Art, Music, & Creative Process capped with a virtual standing ovation.”
Additionally, Vargas teased that the full video would be available to view “in a few weeks” on YouTube/TedxFargo.

Van Halen was founded in 1972 by Alex, now 73, and his brother, Eddie, who died at 65 following a stroke amid a battle with cancer in 2020. David, now 71, was the original lead singer, with Alex on drums and Eddie on lead guitar, keyboard and backing vocals. The group’s fourth original member was Michael Anthony, now 72, who played bass and sang backing vocals.
In the ’80s, the hard rock band reached the height of its fame, thanks to hit songs like “Jump,” “Runnin’ With the Devil,” “Panama,” and more. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
David and Alex last performed together at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in October 2015. During the performance, Eddie’s son, Wolfgang Van Halen — whom he welcomed with actress Valerie Bertinelli — played bass for Van Halen.
