What To Know

  • Dermot Mulroney will exit Chicago Fire in Season 15.
  • Mulroney’s Pascal is one of only three characters whose lives are not in jeopardy after the Season 14 finale cliffhanger.
  • News of his departure comes soon after it was revealed that Joe Miñoso will be leaving.

Well, the chief’s office at 51 is going to be open for Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), who was promoted to captain but is now deciding between the CFD and OFI, in Chicago Fire Season 15.

While Dermot Mulroney returned as Dom Pascal in the Season 14 finale, brought back by the CFD brass in an attempt to sway Severide’s decision and rode along with 51 to the fire call that led to the major cliffhanger, he wasn’t officially back. And now, Deadline reports that Mulroney will be back just to “wrap up his storyline early” in the new season this fall.

Mulroney came in as 51’s new Battalion Chief after Eamonn Walker‘s Wallace Boden moved up in the CFD and out of 51 (and the actor exited). While he and the rest of the firehouse took time to warm up to each other, they did. Then, during the crossover with Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. in March, Pascal went against orders from the FBI to search an apartment for a hard drive during their investigation into a bioweapon. He was arrested (but did get what they needed), but that was far from it.

Pascal then lost his job with the CFD, though he did have a former colleague in Phoenix who’d been trying to recruit him for months.

It was while he was talking to Severide about the latter’s decision about his future that the call came in for the fire, and he decided to tag along. He and paramedics Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) were the only ones still outside, while everyone else’s fates were up in the air inside the building and on the ladder right outside.

News of Mulroney’s exit comes just after it was revealed that Joe Miñoso, who has played Joe Cruz since the series premiere, is leaving after “a handful of episodes” in Season 15. It feels like both these departures suggest that Severide will decide to stay at 51; it’s hard to imagine him choosing OFI with the change already coming for the firehouse. After all, there’s also a new series regular joining, in Da’Vinchi as a new firefighter candidate.

As for how Pascal will be written out, it does seem to be as simple as him not being offered his job back with the CFD, and perhaps he’s just around for the immediate resolution of the cliffhanger and to support 51 in the aftermath of the possible death of one of their own.

This is not news, it was reported a while ago when Mulroney was already cast in another show. I won’t miss him he was not my favorite, his character was written so abrasive and IMO never became anything but that. And I always felt the writers pushed the narrative that the firefighters at 51 really adored him. He never warmed up to them although he did support them. It was hard to warm up to actor who was only on the series a little over a season and a half. Now Joe Minoso is a real blow because he is not only an OG but a great central character who is a great actor. His character was a great firefighter, husband, father and loyal co worker. We not only lose Joe but also the actors who played his wife and children.

Well said! I agree with everything that you said. In my opinion Mulroney came with too much baggage and secrets and he never warmed up to 51. Joe is another story. He is so down to earth and normal and funny! I will miss him!

I just felt he never quite fit in. Of course Boden was a tough act to follow and everyone loved him. Especially his fans!!

Here’s hoping Severide steps into the role, making sure he loses none of his grit!! Maybe cutting back a little of StellaRide as well

Writing loved characters out and bringing new ones in. Don't like it but TPTB don't care what the fans think. They keep this up fans are going to stop watching.

I was skeptical at first re Mulroney as the new Chief at 51, but he won me over. I will be sorry to see him go, but excited that Severide may finally become 51's Chief. It's about time he climbed the next step of the ladder - so to speak. 🙂

Honestly, I thought he was already gone. He didn't appear in much of the last half of the season.
