‘The Rookie’: Richard T. Jones Gives Grey & Luna Relationship Update

To say that The Rookie Season 8 wasn’t easy on Grey (Richard T. Jones) and Luna’s (Angel Parker) marriage would be an understatement. But based on what Jones told TV Insider at San Diego Comic-Con, things should hopefully be much better for them when the long-running drama returns for Season 9 in 2027 as part of ABC’s midseason lineup (along with the debut of The Rookie: North spinoff).
“It’s going to come along just fine. I’m a patient man, and that is the love of my life, I guess. So, I’m a patient man, and we’re going to work things out. We better,” he said to us, days after filming started on Season 9.
During the course of Season 8, Luna flirted with a coworker at the hospital, Dr. Oliver Ashton (Charles Michael Davis), and Grey was not happy when he found his sunglasses in his wife’s car. When Grey confronted his wife, she got defensive before telling him nothing happened but she did feel something for the other man. While she was attracted to Oliver, she didn’t plan to act on it — and there was a world where Grey never even found out about it before she worked through it. “I do know,” he told her. “It’s breaking my heart.” He ended up moving into a hotel.

But the first order of business when The Rookie Season 9 premieres will be to get Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) back after they were taken by people working for international crime boss Heath Everett (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) right after they got engaged.
According to Jones, they’re Grey’s “kids, so I’m always looking out for them. Grey has to get them back. He believes that everybody gets to go home every night and everybody’s going to make it through every shift. So when something happens like this, he gets very concerned. He can’t sleep and that type of thing.”
