MS NOW’s Jen Psaki Spots Polling Detail That Is Disaster for Trump
What To Know
- Jen Psaki highlighted a new CNN poll showing Donald Trump’s approval ratings have dropped, particularly among white voters without a college degree.
- Psaki says these numbers should be of concern to his administration.
- Psaki criticized Trump’s focus on construction projects and unpopular policies, noting that only 27% of Americans believe he has the right priorities for the country.
A new CNN poll revealed that Donald Trump‘s approval ratings hit lows that haven’t been seen since January 6, 2021, and Jen Psaki broke down why his administration should be very concerned about the numbers on the July 29 episode of The Briefing With Jen Psaki.
Psaki pointed out that when Trump first ran for president in 2016, he bragged about doing well with voters who did not have a college degree (or, as he put it, the “poorly educated.) However, according to CNN’s poll, Trump is now “underwater with white voters without a college degree, and for the first time ever, that deficit is outside the margin of error,” Psaki explained.
She noted that this polling “should be freaking people out over at the White House” because it’s a “huge freaking deal.”
Psaki continued, “Democrats haven’t won a majority of white voters without a college degree since Jimmy Carter in 1976. And now Trump is losing that key demographic by eight points.”
The MS NOW journalist pointed to a specific question in the poll (“Does Donald Trump have the right priorities for this country?”) and explained, “Only 27% of Americans think Trump’s priorities are right, while 73% do not think Trump has the right priorities, that he hasn’t paid attention to the country’s most important problems. He’s a whopping 46 points underwater on this issue.”
Psaki slammed Trump for focusing on various construction projects (including a ballroom and the renovation of Dulles International Airport), as opposed to bigger issues the country is facing. “It seems like every day we get a new one of these weird-looking projects, often in various shades of gold, that he’s rolling out, that he’s super focused and obsessed about,” Psaki continued.
She also noted that Trump’s “policy priorities” aren’t any better, pointing to his “unpopular war in Iran and unpopular trade war.”
