‘Big Brother 28’: Rome Seymour on Playing With Icons, The Shocking Vote, & More

'Big Brother' season 28 Houseguest Rome Seymour
Q&A
CBS

A showmance has been torn apart after Rome Seymour’s eviction from the Big Brother house. Rome entered a showmance with Lyric Medeiros on day two. He was evicted in week two, leaving 15 Houseguests left in the game.

After forming many alliances, Rome found himself in hot water when he talked to the HOH for the week, Survivor‘s Rick Devens. He asked to save six people, including himself. When Devens told him to narrow it down, Rome said himself, Lyric, and Jason de Puy were the three he would save, leaving LaTrice Verrett, Melody Morris, and Drew Campbell vulnerable.

This led to Devens telling his alliance and putting up Jason, Lyric, and Melody for eviction. It caused a blowout fight during the nomination ceremony with Jason and Angela Murray getting into an argument.

Devens’ plan to backdoor Rome came to fruition when he won the POV, took off Lyric, and put Rome in her place. When Jason won the Blockbuster, Rome was left on the block with Melody. Here‘s what he has to say about being with Lyric outside the house. Plus, he found out her dad is a former pop star and said he is finding out more stuff about her as time goes on.

In a 12 to 1 vote, Rome was evicted from the Big Brother house on July 23. Here is what he had to say about the reality TV icons, Lyric, his eviction, and more.

TV Insider: How are you doing today?

Rome Seymour: I could be better.

I’m sure. What was your reaction to the nomination ceremony? Devens sort of twisted your words a bit.

Honestly, I trusted Devens. He and I had a great conversation outside, saying, “You’re the only one of the only people that talks game with me. You’re one of the only guys I trust. I feel really comfortable with you,” and I reciprocated that. I honestly felt like I could trust him wholeheartedly, so there was gain. I was never going to hide the truth from him because I fully trusted him. But when he aired me out on TV, I looked at him, and I said, “You sure are a great ball player. That was just an awesome, awesome Big Brother play” that I think will go down in the history of things for a little while.

Speaking of Devens, what was your reaction to the reality icons coming in this season?

As soon as they came, I knew Angela. I’m not a huge Survivor fan, so I didn’t know Devens, and I didn’t know Dee [Valladares]. So them coming in, it was like everyone was in this shock and awe. And I think the good thing about me is I looked at them as regular Houseguests compared to everyone else. So, I looked at them, and then everyone told me these are like legends. They were on  Survivor, D1 Survivor. Obviously, I knew who Angela was. So in my brain, immediately I go, “Those are my targets right there. All three of them need to see their way out that front door.” And I think they caught on to that pretty quickly.

You seemed pretty friendly with Devens, though, as time went on. Would you still have put him up after getting to know him better?

Yeah, 100 percent. Devens is so charismatic. He’s so funny. People are calling him the “Dad of the house.” I called him a big brother more than anything, no pun intended, but he is. He was like a brother to me. We talked like bros. It wasn’t like I was talking to my dad. I told him, “Dude, after this, you and I, let’s go get a beer, let’s toss some cornhole bags, let’s have some fun together.” Because he genuinely is just such a cool guy, but he is extremely charismatic, and I knew he would draw a lot of people towards him.

Let’s talk about the votes. 12 to 1, you were evicted. Were you surprised Lyric didn’t vote to keep you? Were you surprised Taylor did?

At first, hearing that I got one vote, it was immediately “OK, Lyric voted for me. I’m out. That’s all I needed. Bang. See you later.” Julie [Chen Moonves] then busts open the envelope by saying, “No, it was Taylor that voted to save you.” So two things happened in my eyes. I was like, “OK, Taylor, that was actually a really smart move by her to say, ‘Hey, I can push this blame onto someone else because no one will think it was me.”

It kind of stung knowing that Lyric did not vote for me, even though she kind of said she would, but I’ve had some time to reflect on it, and I always told her, I said, “You’ve got to do what’s best for your game without the target of me on you.” So her showing that she’s willing to vote me out shows allegiance to the other side that is huge and is going to go a long way for her in this game.

Do you blame any specific person or people for your eviction?

I’m going to blame the icons, to be honest with you. I had them quaking in their boots. They were so scared that I would create this uprising to go against them that they said, “Rome has to go, as soon as possible.” So honestly, I think the icons were kind of scared of me.

That has to feel good, though, being a newbie player.

It’s pretty cool, actually. It’s like, all right, if I have three reality show icons saying that my game is too good and I’m too- I have too much leadership, he’s got to go. That’s all I can really do.

If you could take any one other than Lyric to the final two, who would you have taken?

I was going to take Jason the whole way. Jason was like my closest person in the house. He was there for me when I needed him. Genuinely, just a stand-up person that I trusted.

You seemed genuinely happy when he won the Blockbuster.

I gave him a big hug because if I was going to go out to anyone, I wanted to be him. Because the moment we had beforehand was, How funny would it be that, because I was taking him to the gym, I was training him. He goes, “How funny would it be if your student beats you in a competition after you trained me for the last like two weeks?” I said, “I wouldn’t be anything but proud.” And as I hugged him, and he was crying, I told him one thing — that I hope that he comes through with. I said, “Do me a favor and keep her safe for me.” That’s all I asked of him.

Did you know that he was on two seasons of Drag Race?

After he went up on the nomination block and was in this frenzy of emotions, he sat down with me and said, “I don’t think people understand. I’m actually also like a reality show icon. I’ve been on RuPaul’s Drag Race twice, and I was like, “That’s like the coolest thing ever.” Who are all these people that I’m surrounded by? I’m just some pickleball dude surrounded by all these people. Lyric was on American Idol, obviously the three icons, and then one of my closest allies was on RuPaul. This is the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me.
