Nancy Guthrie Case: Sheriff’s Department Issues Warning in New Update
What To Know
- The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has warned the public about a scam requesting money related to the Nancy Guthrie case.
- Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1.
- Savannah recently returned to Today after a summer break and has appealed for help in finding her mother.
As the Nancy Guthrie investigation continues well into its fifth month, with no updates on her whereabouts or potential suspects, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning to members of the public.
On Monday night (July 13), the PCSD’s official Instagram account posted a statement warning of a scam circulating online. “The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is aware of posts circulating about the Guthrie investigation that include a QR code requesting money,” the statement read.
The statement went on to say, “PCSD will never ask for money related to this case, or any investigation. Please do not send money to people you do not know or scan QR codes requesting payment. If you see one of these posts, ignore it and report it. Stay alert and help spread the word.”

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, went missing on February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and sent DNA for testing at the FBI lab in Quantico, but no suspects have been named publicly.
While the PCSD warned about the scam QR code that asks for money, it should be noted that there is an official QR code for members of the public to submit tips regarding the investigation. The official QR code does not ask for money.
“The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is urgently requesting your assistance in locating Nancy Guthrie, 84, who was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, at her residence near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue,” the PCSD wrote in a previous statement.
It continued, “If you have any information, please contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520)-351-4900, 88-Crime, or use the attached QR code to submit any piece of information that you feel may be helpful.”
Meanwhile, Savannah recently returned to the Today show after a brief summer break. Her absence was not related to her mother’s case, People reports. The morning show host, who returned to her role in April, recently made a public plea for anyone with information about Nancy’s case.
“No matter how much I try to come out here every day and to smile and find that joy — and I will, I promise I will — this is a moment to tell you that we need your help,” Savannah said on the June 23 broadcast. “We’re begging for your help. And I’m not gonna miss that opportunity.”

It all breaks my heart for Nancy's family. I just cannot even IMAGINE what they are going through!!!
My mom was the same age as Nancy, and it really hits home with me. I pray all of the time for her safe return, and/or, just some viable answers and proof one way or another, as to Nancy's condition and safety.....
God bless her, and those who know and love her.

I believe the police know more than putting out & it's sad when the police are to protect us not ignore us & I feel with the info that Nancy would have already been back home with her family. God please keep Nancy safe 🙏

Theres always alittle more that the cops know than the public but that has more to do with forensics and other case building facts rather than potential suspects or other information that could be helpful to the public in identifying a suspect. I whole heartedly believe that Tucsons Detectives and the FBI are doing all they can to bring Nancy home, whether shes alive or not, while also protecting the integrity of evidence that will undoubtedly be needed in a criminal case proceeding.

She’s dead and has been for months. It sad but true. Wouldn’t matter if her daughter wasn’t some broad on tv. How about we focus on more important things.
