Abbie Cornish will portray Anna Nicole Smith in the upcoming biopic Trust Me, I’m a Doctor — and the first look has arrived.
On July 7, Variety was the first to share a photo of Cornish in character as the late Playboy magazine centerfold and model, who died at 39 in 2007, following an accidental overdose. The snapshot showed Cornish, 43, sprawled across a convertible while dressed in a white outfit with colorful beaded necklaces.
In a second first-look photo, Kal Penn as Dr. Sandeep Kapoor speaks with his lawyer, Ellyn Garofalo, played by Linda Hamilton.
“She really embodied Anna Nicole in a very striking way,” Penn told Variety about Cornish. “She was a completely different person.”
He added, “I briefly met Anna Nicole a handful of times way back when I was starting my career, and she was on a reality show. I never really had any conversations of any note with her but it definitely brought me back to that time. Abbie is excellent. She’s phenomenal in this role.”

Trust Me, I’m a Doctor is based on Kapoor’s 2017 book, which details his implication in Smith’s death after her body was found in a hotel room in Hollywood, Florida. At the time, Kapoor had prescribed methadone to Smith under a false name.
“Set against the height of the early 2000s tabloid era, the film chronicles Kapoor’s fight to clear his name as paparazzi descend on his office, police raid his home, private journals are leaked, and every aspect of his personal life becomes public,” Briarcliff Entertainment noted in a description of the film. “With the guidance of respected attorney Ellyn Garofalo, Kapoor must navigate a high-stakes drug conspiracy trial while confronting the intersection of celebrity, justice, politics and personal redemption.”
Cornish is best known for her role in Bright Star (2009) and more recently appeared in the Prime Video series Jack Ryan. Meanwhile, Penn is known for Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and Hamilton famously portrayed Sarah Connor in the Terminator movie franchise.
Trust Me, I’m a Doctor was written and directed by Thane Economou and produced by Ryan Hawkins, Al Engemann, Rebecca Case, and Geenah Krisht.
Trust Me, I’m a Doctor hits theaters on October 16
