‘American Idol’s Hannah Harper Teases New Music Video Starring Her Husband With BTS Clips
What To Know
- Hannah Harper released behind-the-scenes footage from her upcoming music video.
- Her husband, Devon Mendenhall, stars in the video for “Married Into This Town.”
- Harper first debuted the song during the American Idol finale.
Hannah Harper debuted her song “Married Into This Town” during her hometown parade on the American Idol finale in May, and now she’s gearing up to drop the music video. Ahead of the official release on July 10, Harper shared some sneak peek clips from filming.
The Season 24 American Idol winner’s husband, Devon Mendenhall, stars alongside her in the video for the song she wrote about planting roots in his hometown. In the BTS clips, Harper struggled to lip sync to the track, so she sang an “unhinged” version of the song out loud while cameras were rolling.
“Unfortunately, the camera crew also had to endure this performance live and in person. My sincerest apologies to everyone involved,” she captioned the clips. “Y’all, lip-syncing for a music video is awkward. This was the only way I could make it through without feeling ridiculous so naturally, I chose chaos.”

She concluded, “Hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes footage while you wait for the official release of Married Into This Town on July 10th!”
The footage features Harper and Mendenhall holding hands while walking through a field in their Missouri town. At one point, they stopped to slow dance while Harper sang the lyrics to the song to her husband.
The song includes lyrics such as,” I wasn’t born with roots in the ground, but you can bet I’ll be sticking around,” and, “Some people can’t wait to get out, oh, but I married into this town.” Harper and Mendenhall met in church. They got married in 2018 and share three sons.
Harper is on tour this summer and has her husband and kids on the road with her. Her family supported her throughout her entire American Idol journey earlier this year.
“Just the emotional weight at the end of each night … just being able to take it off and be like, ‘Here you go,’ and [my husband] would take it every single week,” Hannah told Swooon. “That was probably the best. I was thankful I had that. Most of the other contestants were carrying it until the end of the competition, and it was like a blanket that I got to take off each night. That was the best part.”
