‘FROM’ Season 4 Finale: Ending Explained & Why No One Is Safe Anymore

In the final episode of Season 4, the residents of FROMville take a stand against the town that has been holding them hostage by making the bold decision to remove the bottle tree. Until this point, many of the characters have been skirting the edges of danger, but now they finally choose to confront it head-on, setting the stage for a battle with the mysterious forces that have controlled their lives for so long. Warning: Spoilers ahead for FROM Season 4 Episode 10 “If a Tree Falls in the Forest…”!

When darkness falls…

In the Season 4 finale, Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade (David Alpay) reach the chamber beneath the bottle tree and begin collecting the children’s bones, believing this could be the act that frees everyone from the town’s grasp. But removing the bottle tree comes with a terrible cost: The chamber is left unprotected.

Suddenly, an eclipse plunges the town into darkness, allowing the creatures to descend on all the residents of the town who have gathered around the removed tree to help Tabitha and Jade.

Jade tries to sacrifice himself so Tabitha can escape with the bones, but the plan falls apart when the ladder breaks due to Sophia’s (Julia Doyle) meddling. The two are forced to flee deeper into the tunnels, where they become trapped behind a barred opening as the monsters close in. They use the “‘poor man’s Morse code’ radio” and get in touch with Boyd (Harold Perrineau), who manages to find them with Fatima and Ellis (Corteon Moore), but the creatures are on their tail.

“Close to the end”

Poor Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons). He found a pic from years ago that looked just like Sophia and wanted to show it to her for funsies. Turns out, it was her. As she tells him, she can only inhabit the bodies of people who died in the town. She offers him a chance to go home if he helps her because “we are getting close to the end” and “it gets very messy at the end.” Elgin starts praying, and Sophia makes her move. He starts bleeding from his eyes and mouth, and moments later, he dies.

The sun comes back as Sophia tells Clara (Katerina Bakolias) to get rid of the body before telling her little spineless minion, “Now I light the match, and I watch it burn.”

RIP Elgin Williams.

So, Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) isn’t doing so hot. After drinking the herbal mixture Clara gave her under Sophia’s, a.k.a. the Man in the Yellow Suit (Douglas E. Hughes), instructions, her condition takes an even darker turn. And considering her heart rate was already down to just 19 beats per minute, that ain’t good.

Fatima and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) are together in the clinic when Fatima suddenly has a vision of Smiley (Jamie McGuire) coming to the clinic, which it can enter since the talismans fell during the earthquake. Moments later, the vision becomes reality. Smiley attacks, slashing Marielle in half. As it happens, Fatima instinctively lets out an inhuman roar, prompting Smiley to pause and remark, “Interesting.”

When Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) returns with the others, she finds Marielle brutally cut to shreds. Despite everything, Marielle dies from her injuries.

RIP Marielle Sinclair.

For now, Fatima keeps her new singing voice a little secret.

Later, she joins Boyd and Ellis in their quest to find Jade and Tabitha in the tunnels under the Colony House. They manage to find the duo, but are quickly discovered by the town’s nightwalkers and are chased. Just when they are about to be captured, Fatima realizes what she needs to do and what has been happening to her.

“Remember who I was,” she tells the group. She then turns to the fiends and morphs into one of them, screaming at them in their native language and buying the group time to escape.

Father and child reunion

Henry’s (Robert Joy) grip on reality continues to unravel as the hospital visions convince him that the town isn’t real. Concerned for his state of mind, Donna (Elizabeth Saunders) sends him to the sheriff’s station to rest, but there, Henry discovers bullets among Victor’s (Scott McCord) belongings and begins contemplating the unthinkable: killing his own son in the hope that it will free him from what he believes is an illusion.

Later, Victor finds his father and apologizes for showing him the drawing depicting the Man in Yellow devouring Miranda. Insisting that none of it is real, Henry raises the gun and prepares to shoot Victor.

Before he can pull the trigger, Ethan (Simon Webster) rushes in, giving Victor the chance to knock the gun away by punching his father. Devastated, Victor demands to know why Henry would do such a thing, “WHY?!?”

“I guess we’ll see”

As chaos engulfs the town, Sophia quietly makes her own move, removing every talisman she can find and stripping the residents of their only protection against the creatures. In the forest, she then comes face-to-face with the Boy in White (Vox Smith), who tells her, “You are going to lose this time.” Unfazed, she simply replies, “I guess we’ll see.”

Sophia then disposes of the stolen talismans by tossing them into a hollow shaft inside a tree, leaving the town more vulnerable than ever.
