‘Fox & Friends’ Rachel Campos-Duffy Faces Backlash Over Zohran Mamdani Comment

Fox & Friends Weekend cohost Rachel Campos-Duffy is under fire after she took a dig at New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Sunday’s (June 21) show when she referred to him as a “nepo baby.”

Campos-Duffy made the comment after her cohost, Griff Jenkins, said he has no skills when it comes to assembling grills or solving plumbing problems. “Well, somebody who couldn’t lift weights and probably couldn’t tile your bathroom either… that’s nepo baby Zohran Mondani, who’s now running the city of New York,” she said.

For those unfamiliar, a nepo baby (short for “nepotism baby”) is someone who is afforded opportunities due to their famous or highly influential parents. The insult was particularly ironic coming from Campos-Duffy, who just days earlier featured her daughter, right-wing independent journalist Evita Duffy-Alfonso, on the network.

In fact, Evita is frequently invited onto Fox News, mostly recently appearing on Friday’s (June 19) edition of Jesse Watters Primetime, when her mom was filling in for Jesse Watters. “Let’s bring in… independent journalist, and my daughter, Evita Duffy-Alfonso,” Campos-Duffy said.

Evita is the daughter of Campos-Duffy and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who met while contestants on the MTV reality show The Real World. In addition to appearing across several Fox News shows, Evita has also written opinion pieces for Fox News Digital.

Mamdani’s critics have often referred to him as a “nepo baby,” despite his parents never having worked in the political field. He is the son of Mahmood Mamdani, a professor at Columbia, and Mira Nair, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker who has directed films such as Monsoon Wedding (2001), Vanity Fair (2004), and The Namesake (2006).

Social media users blasted Campos-Duffy’s comments, with one X user writing, “Guess the Campos-Duffy household has no rule on lies.”

“RCamposDuffy is a professional liar and grifter,” said another.

“You can include her son-in-law @MikeAlfonsoWI in the nepotism discussion (candidate for Congress),” another added.

Another wrote, “Fox News is the definition of nepo-babies.”
