NBA Draft Begins, ‘Work’ Stoppage, ‘Love It or List It’ Returns

While confetti still swirls around lower Manhattan in the wake of the Knicks’ NBA Finals victory, the next season is already taking shape as the first round of the NBA Draft begins from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Malika Andrews hosts ESPN‘s night-long analysis (starting at 7 pm/ET), with Kevin Negandhi moderating the ABC panel (starting at 8 pm/ET) featuring Kenny Smith, Jay Williams, and Richard Jefferson with lucky draftees and their families as special guests. Top prospects include BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Duke’s Cameron Boozer, North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson, and Kansas star Darryn Peterson. The Washington Wizards get the first pick.

Not Suitable for Work

The Friends-style sitcom about young professionals who live across the hall from each other in New York City ends its first season on the most traditional of notes. Pivotal episodes with romantic cliffhangers unfold during the holidays of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the latter described by eternally lovesick Davis (Will Angus) as “a birthday party for the whole world.” He still carries a torch for co-worker AJ (Ella Hunt), despite learning to his dismay that she’s been secretly seeing their boss, Bill (Jay Ellis), an affair that can’t possibly end well. Elsewhere, Kel (Nicholas Duvernay) juggles teaching and rehearsals for his Broadway breakthrough, while Josh (Jack Martin) and Abby (Avantika) struggle with setbacks on the economic and job front. My favorite line: “What’s a Cole Escola?” wonders clueless news anchor Wes Dryden (Victor Garber) when he’s booked on an influencer’s New Year’s Eve broadcast and realizes how out of touch he is with today’s pop culture.

Love It or List It

A staple of the HGTV lineup returns for a 21st season with 12 new episodes, once again pitting real-estate maven David Visentin against designer Page Turner as they help families and couples decide whether to renovate their imperfect homes or move on to something new. In the opener, the only woman in a family of five (like the mom on Home Improvement) living in a one-bathroom, three-bedroom home seeks a place with more space, while her husband argues that Page can remake their cramped castle to her liking.

America’s Got Talent

Will the Golden Buzzer sound again in the fourth week of auditions for the summer’s top talent contest? The judges haven’t been shy this season about sharing their enthusiasms, and the variety of acts is as eclectic as ever. The lineup reportedly includes the usual assortment of singers as well as dance acts, a dog act, a novelty act where the participants dress like cats, plus a sword swallower, a mentalist duo, a parkour performer, and a martial arts grandmaster whose moniker, Mr. Hammerhand, says it all.

World Cup

In the final week of the soccer tournament’s group round of 48, the stakes grow higher in each match as teams face elimination or advancement to the knockout stage of 32, which begins on Sunday. So far, the U.S. Men’s National Team, Mexico, Germany, Argentina, Norway and France are confirmed to advance, but more will be decided in the days to come. Teams in Group K (led by Colombia) and Group L (led by England) compete in today’s scheduled matches: Portugal vs. Uzbekistan in Houston (1 pm/ET, Fox), England vs. Ghana in Boston (4 pm/ET, Fox), Panama vs. Croatia in Toronto (7 pm/ET, Fox), and Colombia vs. Congo DR in Guadalajara Stadium (10 pm/ET, FS1).
