Dylan Dreyer had a good reason to miss NBC‘s Today earlier this week.
The meteorologist was absent from the morning show’s Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9, episodes, with NBC hosts Laura Jarrett and Savannah Sellers filling in for her on the third hour of Today. She returned to Studio 1A on Wednesday, June 10, alongside her third hour cohosts, Al Roker and Craig Melvin.
Before Wednesday’s show, Dreyer revealed via Instagram that she took the start of the week off to enjoy a fun trip with her close friend, Anne Allred. “Here’s your sign to book that little trip with your best friend that you keep saying you’re going to get away with!” Dreyer captioned the post. “Your heart and soul will thank you!”
Dreyer’s post featured several photos from the pair’s girls’ trip, including a snap of them posing in front of the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. Other photos showed Dreyer and Allred enjoying the Warm Springs Pools, hiking around the resort’s grounds, playing a round of golf, and grabbing food at a local restaurant.
“Such a wonderful place! We honeymooned there 47 years ago!” one fan commented underneath the post. Another added, “Great choice of destination!!” Someone else shared, “We love The Homestead-so glad you had fun with your bestie!!!!”

A different person posted, “You so deserve this getaway! Thanks for reminding the rest of us!! A great recharge I’m sure!” A separate commenter stated, “Been to this beautiful resort. Such a peaceful setting.”
Dreyer and Allred have been friends for several years, as they previously worked together at the NBC Boston affiliate WHDH. Dreyer joined the Today family as a weather anchor for Weekend Today in 2012. That same year, Allred moved from the Boston station to KSDK in St. Louis, Missouri.
Back in June 2019, Dreyer made a bet with Allred over which team would win the Stanley Cup. If the St. Louis Blues won, Dreyer would have to wear the team’s jersey on air and sing “Gloria” by Laura Branigan. If the Boston Bruins won, Allred would have to wear a Bruins jersey and sing “Dirty Water” by The Standells.
Ultimately, the Blues defeated the Bruins for that year’s Stanley Cup title, and Dreyer made good on her promise live on Today. Explaining Allred’s song request, Dreyer told her cohosts, “Back when they had the worst record in the league, someone played it in a bar, and the next day, they started winning and have been on this winning streak ever since. So, that’s why ‘Gloria’ became this song that uplifts the team.”
Roker and Willie Geist clapped and snapped along as Dreyer sang the song on the third hour of Today, while Melvin giggled at the performance. Dreyer ended her singing early as the song approached some higher notes. “I can’t do it,” she quipped.
She shared a clip of her “Gloria” performance via Instagram at the time, writing, “Just in case you missed me making good on my bet with Anne Allred from @ksdknews in St Louis. Unfortunately I can’t get Gloria out of my head!! (And I’m sorry to make you listen to this).”
