HGTV’s Jasmine Roth Shares Update on Hospitalized Daughter After ‘Traumatic’ Accident
What To Know
- HGTV star Jasmine Roth spent a traumatic day in the ER after her toddler daughter Darla suffered a head injury at home.
- Roth shared the experience and her emotional response on Instagram.
- After the incident, Roth also visited the OB Emergency to check on her unborn baby.
Jasmine Roth had a traumatic Sunday (May 31) after her toddler daughter, Darla, suffered an accident at home that resulted in a visit to the hospital and seven stitches in her head.
The HGTV star shared the experience with her Instagram followers, including gory photos of her daughter with a nasty gash above her eyebrow. Roth and her husband, Brett, share two children, 20-month-old Darla and six-year-old Hazel, with a third on the way.
“Today was a rough one. Darla had her first ER visit (our first since having kids) and it was a LOT,” Roth wrote on her Instagram Story. “She fell off the couch and hit the coffee table just right so she had a 1/2″ indentation where her eyebrow was supposed to be.”
The HELP! I Wrecked My House host said she was home alone with the girls when the accident happened. She rushed to the hospital, and her husband met them there.

“Darla is ok, but it took 7 stitches to close her back up,” Roth shared. “She was such a trooper. I’m going to put our coffee table in storage until the kids are in college.”
In one particularly gruesome photo of Darla’s wound, Roth wrote, “You guys, I’ve never seen anything like this. I was so scared for her. Hazel was screaming because she was scared too but we had to act fast. Poor baby cried but was so brave.”

She also shared some words of wisdom for all the parents out there, stating, “Just a reminder that being a parent isn’t about all the pressure we put on ourselves to make everything perfect. It’s about keeping them as safe as possible and being there for them when something goes wrong.”
Roth described the day as “traumatic,” but said after the sedation wore off “it was almost like it didn’t happen for [Darla].” She added, “Feeling lucky it wasn’t worse and we were able to take her home to rest and play. Sending love to all the parents who are having tough times right now. You aren’t alone.”
She also gave a shout-out to her mom for dropping everything to pick up Hazel from the hospital while she and Brett stayed with Darla.
In a follow-up post, Roth, who announced her third pregnancy last month, said before the accident, she was using her iPhone and her earbuds to listen to the baby’s heartbeat. “I knew I was probably too early so wasn’t super concerned when I couldn’t find a heartbeat,” she explained.
However, while at the ER, she asked the doctor to listen to put her mind at ease. “They weren’t able to find it either, which again wasn’t a major concern because that’s not their specialty,” Roth added.
Once Darla was back home and settled, Roth said she took herself to the OB Emergency in Salt Lake just to be sure. “They immediately found a heartbeat and even did a quick ultrasound to show the baby basically doing gymnastics and I couldn’t feel a thing,” she shared.

All Darla is going to remember is that her mom held her and took care of her. Kids will sometimes get bumps, bruises, and even stitches because it just happens so give yourself a break. She has that daring side of her mom!! 🙂

It happens with little ones. They can get hurt so fast. When my son was 3 we went to a family members house on Christmas Day and their much older son got a boy scout knife for Christmas. The kids were in his bedroom playing. I had know idea that my nephew had a sharp knife in his room. My 3 year old grabbed the blade of the knife and it cut the webbing between his thumb and index finger. We had to rush him to get 5 stitches on Christmas. No fun.

My mom had to take me to the ER when I was Darla’s age. I caught the edge of the coffee table at the outside corner of my eye. No stitches, they used butterfly bandaid. I’m 63 now, I don’t remember it, just the story. Mom passed out after all was said and done.

Head wounds bleed along. My son got hit by a baseball bat(eyebrow) 11 stitches then, fell off the monkey bars and we went again(14 stitches then. He almost bit his tongue in half) the dr was calling other drs to come and look, coz they usually don't stitches tongues up. My Dad and I were right there watching..

This exact thing happened to my son when he was 12 months old, 2 stitch to his lip from a coffee table. It was awful. When we got home the coffee table went in the cellar. Glad She's Okay !!!

Been there done that! Not fun for anyone and pretty scary at the same time. Glad she’s ok. I fell down a flight of stairs with my daughter, she was unscathed, she thought it was funny and wanted to do it again! Me not so much. I had to sit on a doughnut for a week and I looked like I was in a bar fight. Good times!!!

The beautiful thing is Darla won’t remember a thing; she will NOW but give it a while and it’ll be wiped from her memory (unfortunately not yours!)

I know the ordeal you went through with your child, my second daughter fell off the Fletcher at a ball game, she was running and we told her to stop and that is when she fell, the gash was a inch my husband pick her up and rush her to the hospital, I went with her in the examination room and I kept crying that my baby got hurt , it to six of us to hold her down do they could sow her up, then a month later she was jumping on the couch and hit the coffee table and she split her lip, we rush to the hospital again , but this time I made my husband go in with her, the faster the doctor was putting in stitches she was chewing them out, she lip was swollen and we goʻt popsicle to bring it down, my to olðest chìldren split their knee open by horse playing in places they should been, so know matter how old your child is, you will accident

My youngest at almost 2 tripped and fell again our wood burning stove and cut his head open. Blood covered his whole face. Brought him to the hospital and they cleaned him up, sewed him up, gave him a lollipop 🍭 and sent us home. Welcome to parenthood on speed dial. I spent the rest of the night thinking what just happened 🤔
