Kelly Clarkson Gets Emotional Over Talk Show Coming to an End
What To Know
- Kelly Clarkson became emotional during an episode of her talk show after guest Rita Wilson praised her impact on daytime television.
- Clarkson previously announced that this season would be the last for The Kelly Clarkson Show.
- In her farewell statement, Clarkson expressed gratitude to her band, crew, guests, fans, and NBC.
Kelly Clarkson fought back tears after singer and actress Rita Wilson showered her with compliments.
Wilson was a guest on Wednesday’s (May 27) edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she was promoting her new album and accompanying tour, Sound of a Woman. Towards the end of the interview, Wilson thanked the American Idol winner for the past seven years of hosting her daytime talk show.
“I just wanna say one thing before we go,” Wilson said. “I wanna thank you for the years that you’ve been doing your show. I wanna thank you for literally changing the game when it came to daytime television.”
She continued, “The fact that you love music. That you have brought so much music to daytime, that you have shared with us your voice, your gifts, and everyone else’s and your incredible band. I really wanna thank you because it has made a big change in my life. So thank you, Kelly.”
As the studio audience cheered in support of Wilson’s words, Clarkson began to tear up. “I’m fine,” she said as she became teary-eyed.
After hugging Wilson and returning to her seat, Clarkson tried to compose herself. “Oh my God!” she joked, “I’m like, ‘Shut it off!’ It’s okay.”
Clarkson announced back in February that her talk show would end after this current season. In a statement, she explained how she wants to “prioritize” her children following the passing of their father, her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who died in August 2025 at 48. Final episodes are expected to broadcast in the fall.
“I am forever grateful and honored to have worked alongside the greatest band and crew you could hope for, all the talent and inspiring people who have shared their time and lives with us, all the fans who have supported our show, and to NBC for always being such a supportive and incredible partner,” the singer wrote at the time.
She added, “Because of all of that, this was not an easy decision, but this season will be my last hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show. Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.”

Ms. Kelly Clarkson,
We are going to miss you coming into our home for a daily visit, and to be serenaded by you on a daily basis. You, Ma’am, truly are one in a million!
(I say ‘Ma’am because I have the utmost respect for you.).
I have watched you grow into your life from the talent contest, on. You are one of The Most REAL celebrities I have ever known, or seen. Plus, the BEST momma I have ever known.
I will be 68 years old next month and I rarely write to any of the celebrities. But, as I said, you are ONE IN A MILLION!!
You truly are!
Please stay exactly as you are! You can make me laugh, and then make me cry. You are 120% real!
I wish I could see you at your Vegas Residency before I leave this world but that’s just on my bucket list. My means don’t allow it.
I just wanted to let you know, from this retired singer, how much I admire you and respect you. May you live a very long and healthy life, not only for your children but for you also! 😊💕

What a lovely sentiment. I feel exactly as u do. I have been watching Kelly since American Idol. And I am 75 and also used to sing. Kelly is 120% real as u said. I would love to be seated next to you in that Vegas show. But as you said the pocketbook won't allow it. Who knows maybe God will find a way. In any case, Kelly I wish u continued success, and continue to keep it real. God bless you and your family.

When you have all these talkshow host that have been women that don't particularly sell Platinum records. As journalist what are they informing America about or is it more smoke screens, beauty, fashion and talent. So when a show comes to an end what do you exactly expect there's not a need for you anymore and the industry is tired of flipping the bill. You got to go.
