Season 2 of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is on the horizon as fans tune in to follow along for the live-action update of the beloved Nickelodeon animated show. The series follows Aang (Gordon Cormier), the last Air Nomad who is also the Avatar, the only person capable of mastering all four elements of fire, air, water, and earth. When the Fire Nation begins a century-long war for global domination, Aang suddenly vanishes. A hundred years later, he is discovered frozen in an iceberg by waterbender Katara (Kiawentiio) and her brother Sokka (Ian Ousley) from the Southern Water Tribe.

The seven-episode Season 2 adapts the events of the beloved original Book Two: Earth, which follows Team Avatar as they journey into the Earth Kingdom to seek an audience with the Earth King and find Aang an earthbending teacher.

A third season will likely adapt Book Three: Fire, the final chapter of the original animated series, which follows Aang as he prepares for his inevitable showdown with Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim).

So, will there be a Season 3? Here is everything we know so far.

With that also comes the news that Season 3 will be the last, “to conclude the epic story as the four nations unite – Water, Earth, Fire, Air – to bring The Legend of Aang to its proper conclusion,” said Netflix in a statement.

When will Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 premiere?

Season 3 of the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix does not yet have an official premiere date. However, because Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back and wrapped filming in late 2025, the final season is expected to debut in early to mid-2027.

Who will star in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3?

Expect Team Avatar to return, including Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, and Ian Ousley, as well as Maria Zhang and Miya Cech. Also expect Fire Nation baddies Daniel Dae Kim, Dallas Liu, and Elizabeth Yu to return, along with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee.

Two new faces in Season 3 include Jon Jon Briones as Master Piandao, a legendary swordsman and bladesmith, and Tantoo Cardinal as Hama, a dark waterbending master.

What is Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 about?

It’s a bit too early to give up any details about the Season 3 plot, but as it is the final season, it will likely cover the climax of the story from the animated series, including the final battle against the Fire Nation.

How did Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 end

During a battle with Princess Azula, Aang enters the powerful Avatar State. Before he can finish the fight, he shows mercy, and Azula uses the moment to strike him down with a bolt of lightning. As he is struck down during the Avatar State, there is a chance that he is not only killed, but that the Avatar Cycle has ended forever. Katara uses the sacred Spirit Oasis water to revive Aang, and while his heartbeat returns, his survival hangs in the balance. The season ends with the Earth Kingdom capital captured by the Fire Nation.

Stop waiting 2 years between seasons!!!! Movies are going straight to streaming within a month of being released, but make us wait 2 years for 7 episodes??? This is ridiculous!!! Not starting anymore shows until the whole series is done.
