‘The Neighborhood’ Fans Have Big Complaint About Series Finale
The Neighborhood aired its last ever episode on May 11 and fans have some complaints about the series finale, with many wishing that they’d seen much more of the eagerly-anticipated double wedding.
The episode opened with the Butlers — Calvin (Cedric the Entertainer), Tina (Tichina Arnold), Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney), and Marty (Marcel Spears) — dressed in their tuxes and gowns in a room, snapping photos before the sons’ weddings to their fiances.
The Johnsons — Dave (Max Greenfield), Gemma (Beth Behrs), and Grover (Hank Greenspan) — then appeared to wish the boys good luck. Marty and Malcom’s brides — Courtney (Skye Townsend) and Mercedes (Amber Stevens West) — then entered the room. Tina turned the grooms around because she said it was bad luck to see the brides before the ceremony.
When everyone is called to the ceremony, the two boys are still standing in the corner with their hands up. They don’t know whether to move. The scene then cuts to the happy couples, already married, walking out of the Butlers’ house, ready to begin their reception.
The episode spent most of the reception having the characters say goodbye to each other, since the Johnsons were moving back to Michigan. There were no flashbacks, and there were no “X amount of years in the future” to show the couple’s lives with their kids.
Fans complained that the actual wedding ceremonies weren’t shown since the entire season was hyped up around the special event. “They spent the entire season hyping up the wedding just to not show it? Ugh! This felt like a filler episode and not the series finale #TheNeighborhood,” a fan tweeted.
“For a Series Finale, #TheNeighborhood really went out with such a plain episode. At least The Big Bang Theory and Friends had some stakes in their finales. Here? They skip the wedding and focus solely on the party and goodbyes,” another wrote.
“This finale is a little disappointing in the sense that it seems like they’ve condensed it. They didn’t even show us the wedding. For a show that’s been on 8 seasons, it’s a little lame and sad. @TheNeighborhood #TheNeighborhood,” a third said.
“Wait, I got a Black sitcom double wedding, but ain’t get to see the vows? #theneighborhood,” another tweeted.
“I just said that,” a fan replied.
Reddit users said the show should have been an hour long instead of 30 minutes. “I wish they would’ve given us an hour send off because it felt rushed. But I liked it regardless,” one fan commented.
“It felt really forced and rushed,” said another.

Totally agree. My entire family has been a huge fan of this show for a long while now. After watching the Final episode I can see me and my mom both agreed it was one of the worst finale episode we seen in a sitcom show In a long time. it was rushed. It didn't felt much emotions and was a terrible sendoff to a great show and I gonna forgot that episode happen.

Loved the 8 seasons very much. Thought the finale was awful. It was rushed. It didn’t even feel heartwarming. Not sure why the sendoff was so bad considering how wonderful the entire series was.

TOTALLY AGREE What a let down, hubby and I were waiting to see what new neighbors the Butlers were going to get! Could have been some reality family, good or bad... just someone funny to leave us with a chuckle after a sad goodbye afterall it is a comedy. They missed the mark in so many ways. Even I could have done way better!

Should've been an hour. First half on the wedding. Second half the Johnsons selling their home and the full emotional weight that's it's all finally happening. Also Calvin holding back emotions to never have that one moment with Dave was unfortunate. They had enough episodes in the final season to not rush the finale like they did. Felt like a halfway emotional send off. Btw loved the show overall so felt a little robbed in the end. At least they did get a finale.

Worst Final show in history! I agree with all that has already been said. We feel cheated! It was horrible enough that the show was politically pushed off the network. Then the dumbest show in America “The DMV” is allowed on anyone network. The only positive thing for me, is that I’m ready more. The most negative is having to watch Tyler Perry’s trashy shows to see nothing positive featuring Black people. In the words of Nene, I said what I said!

The Neighborhood is at the top of my favorite list. Unfortunately the finale came up short. Where was the much anticipated wedding? They left way too many loose ends

I have come to love this show over the years. However like other reviews, I was not a fan of the series finale. The wedding and the Johnson family goodbyes/send off, should have been two separate shows. Doing them on the same night felt like it shorted both story lines. Not much story for either one. And disappointed, bc I was really looking forward to watching the wedding!! I also was hoping the Johnson's would change their mind and stay, or we'd get a funny glimpse of the new neighbors. Inspite of that, thanks for the years of good stories and laughs!
