‘Doc’ Preview: Will Joan Die? (VIDEO)

Uh-oh, it’s really not looking good for Joan (Felicity Huffman) in the Tuesday, April 7, episode of Doc!

Fox aired a preview for the next episode after the most recent one, which covered Joan’s last day at Westside, and she’s going to be right back at the hospital — but this time as a patient! She now has full-blown leukemia, and Richard (Scott Wolf) warns her, “Your decline will be rapid.”

However, Joan reminds Amy (Molly Parker) that she has a DNR. But what will happen when Joan gets worse and seemingly flatlines?! Watch the promo above for more.

In this next episode, titled “The Big Chair,” it’s Michael’s (Omar Metwally) first day as Joan’s successor as Chief of Internal Medicine. When Joan comes in as a patient, Amy, determined to save her, repeatedly clashes with Richard over her treatment plan. Meanwhile, Gina (Amirah Vann) makes a nearly impossible decision for a young patient. Plus, Liz (Conni Miu), following a conversation with Joan in which the latter encouraged her to find her voice, fights for her allegations against Richard to be taken seriously.

When TV Insider spoke with Felicity Huffman about Joan’s health, she noted her character “has pushed her body to the limit because she has to take prednisone or steroids to function at the level that she demands, and that’s not a free ride. They cost you physically. So, she’s pushed her body, and she realizes, ‘I can’t keep doing that.’ She’s looking at the remaining time she has, and the clock is picking and she goes, ‘OK, where do I want to spend it? I have an opportunity now to spend whatever time I have left with my family. And I didn’t spend time with my son when he was growing up because I was career-driven, and now I have this extra bit of grace that I can spend with my family,’ before I think this disease sort of gets the better of her.”
