As Donald Trump‘s self-imposed deadline to end the war in Iran approaches, Fox News host Laura Ingraham is wondering if the president grasped the full “complexity” of his attacks on the Middle East.
On Monday’s (March 30) edition of The Ingraham Angle, the longtime news anchor addressed Trump’s April 6 deadline to end the conflict and the many questions that still need answering.
“For instance, was the president fully briefed about the risks of all of this from the beginning? And was he then able to take it all in and understand the complexity of this?” she asked, per the Huffington Post. “How complex it could actually get, and further possibilities of casualties or other damage… the difficulty of dealing with these people? Or was he told this would be relatively quick, in and out?”
Ingraham said Trump’s ability to “strike a deal” with Iran could be “a defining moment for this conflict and perhaps of his presidency.”
Trump is set to address the nation tonight, Wednesday, April 1, at 9 pm ET, to share an “important update” on his war with Iran. While the specific details of the president’s speech remain unclear, Trump has previously claimed he has been negotiating with Iranian officials.
On Monday’s show, Ingraham cited a New York Post article, which claimed Trump has been talking with the speaker of the Islamic Republic’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
“But how much power does Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf actually have?” Ingraham asked, noting a report from the New York Times that claimed Iran’s regime is “having some trouble coordinating after so many people were killed.”
“With different leaders in place, Iranian negotiators may have little knowledge about what their government is willing to concede. Or even whom precisely to ask,” Ingraham stated. “So if we cannot come to some type of peace deal with people who can’t be trusted, then what?”
Ingraham answered that herself, suggesting that failed negotiations will likely result in further conflict.
“Well, looks like the U.S. is going to escalate,” she added. “President Trump is already warning of widespread further damage, threatening to hit electric-generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island, as he’s reportedly considering sending ground troops in to secure the uranium.”
