‘Bridgerton’ Author Julia Quinn Reveals the One Thing She Didn’t Want Season 4 to Change

Quite often, Bridgerton has surprised readers of author Julia Quinn’s book series, but Netflix’s fourth season of the Regency romance — which is based on Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman — might be the most book-accurate so far. Both versions chart Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and maid Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) forbidden romance, during which Benedict asks Sophie to become his mistress.
Quinn doesn’t have the final say on the show’s storyline, but she does work as a consultant on the series. When Swooon met with the author, courtesy of Spotify — which recently launched its Page Match feature that connects physical and e-books to its collection of audiobooks, including Bridgerton — we asked if there was anything Quinn insisted the show not change from An Offer From a Gentleman.
