‘Big Brother’ Ratings Shocker After Rachel Reilly Elimination
Rachel Reilly‘s controversial exit from the Big Brother house seems to have had a big impact on the show’s ratings, with Tuesday’s (September 9) key demo numbers down significantly.
On Tuesday’s episode, CBS viewers got to see the divisive White Locust challenge, a new twist in which the remaining houseguests had to compete for survival. The loser of the challenge would be eliminated immediately, rather than going on the block and having a chance to campaign and save themselves from an eviction vote.
Reilly, who first appeared on Big Brother in 2010 before returning and winning the show in 2011, was the ultimate victim of the White Locust twist. She failed to complete the puzzle in the time allotted and was unceremoniously booted from the house as per the regular format.
The shock exit of a Big Brother legend sparked a backlash online after fans discovered what happened during the 24/7 live streams over the weekend. Many said they would boycott the show, refusing to watch the edited version play out on TV on Tuesday’s episode.
“I’m boycotting #BB27 although I am A #BigBrother super fan , I am not ok with the fact that they eliminated Rachel and I just don’t even wanna see what happens next. Like this twist ruined the season for me,” wrote one X user.
“Same. No more @bb27 for me. Do better CBS,” said another.
“Boycott Big Brother! It’s time they hear us loud and clear! They can’t keep pissing on this game and the fans call while calling it rain, and continue to get away with it,” another added.
Another wrote, “BOYCOTT CBS! BOYCOTT BIG BROTHER! BRING BACK RACHEL! WHERE IS RACHEL?”
So, did the boycott work? While Tuesday’s episode brought in 3.347 million viewers, per TVSeriesFinale, up 4.04% on last Wednesday’s (September 3) episode, the numbers were significantly down in the key 18-49 demo. Compared to last Wednesday’s episode, the demo dropped by -31.08%, with 0.51 compared to 0.75.
Wednesday’s (September 10) episode climbed back up, with 0.65 in the key demo, up 27.45% on Tuesday’s episode. However, it dropped 4.21% in overall viewers, with 3.206 million viewers compared to Tuesday’s 3.347 million.

All these people crying about Rachel is crazy... She is an overbearing, over grown bully who was making this season just as annoying as her other seasons. I was never a Rachet fan but this season changed that a little as I began to like her in the begining of the season... but then her normal mean, pushy, bully nonsensicle self came back but now that she is older it just is worse than ever. Honestly I could not wait for her to go. The way the puzzle thing played out was amazing and our whole household was cheering when she was losing the puzzle then ran out of time... A simple puzzle she had ample time to finish was too hard for her.. that should say it all. She does not belong there anylonger.. I am glad that Vince did what he did and I am glad they chose Rachel when they did... really they could have easily made it to where she did not have to compete at all but she fought for it... and she got toasted... BEST NIGHT OF BIG BROTHER EVER!!! THANK YOU BIG BROTHER DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NAYSAYERS!

Her behavior was very much bully-like. The so-called "icon," "diva," "legend" thing is a bit over-the-top & trite in my opinion, because she really thinks she is better than others.

I loved the twist!! I can’t stand Rachel and I’m so happy she’s gone!! She is the most annoying person ever to be on the show. Followed closely by Angela from last season. It’s her own fault she’s gone. The other 3 had no problem with the maze.

These viewers of Big Brother who are boycotting the show are basically not authentic Big Brother fans. By the way, Rachel leaving BB27 was all her doing. She could have completed the maze within the 3 and half minutes, but she did not have it in her. She stayed on the outer section of the maze the entire time. Unfortunately Rachel's social game was lacking. Folks, Big Brother is exactly 💯 percent entertaining. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

If you think Rachel's social game was lacking then you have no clue what you are talking about. It's her physical competition wins that were lacking. She never got nominated for eviction but has a bad social game? The viewers who are boycotting the show are true authentic BB fans and alumni. They know how this fundamentally ruins the social aspect of the game to the point there is no reason to watch. Judging by the recent episode ratings, it's obvious a lot of people are pissed and checked out. Producers were scrambling too when they had feeds off for almost 24 hours, because they knew this twist just ruined their season.

Oh geez. People need to MOVE ON! I’m glad she’s gone. She’s annoying, obnoxious, and just a bully. And it’s no surprise that the alums are upset. Rachel is an alum. Once you’re a past cast member, you become part of the BB/CBS family and it's only natural that other Alums would come out in suuport and fan the fires of discontent. She should have never even been in the house.
Having a two-time houseguest who already won once—and has competed on Amazing Race, Snake in the Grass, Celebrity Fear Factor, The Traitors, and more—was completely unfair. Throwing someone with that kind of résumé in with new cast members totally intimidated and stifled them from the start.
This wasn’t a strong cast to begin with, but they never even had a chance to play on even ground. Every bit of gameplay was focused on or influenced by her presence—on top of her being a bully.
If you want to blame anyone, blame production for putting her in the house. THAT’S what ruined the season!

I can’t believe that CBS allowed her to come back and be that hateful. We were so excited watching her panic in the maze! Continued to fail to get the ball out of the first ring and at 6 1/2 minutes she would have made an even bigger failure of herself. Her hateful exit was even intimidating.
Who was it that she went off on when they mentioned she might go to jury if she wasn’t in the final 2? I’m thinking Morgan. Sadly she didn’t get out before jury. We have to continually look at her and she is going to be just as narcissistic and controlling and the other members of the jury will still be afraid of her. How fun for them.
I wish that CBS would have never allowed such a thing and let the “newbies” play the game that they came to play. Finally, this whole season CBS promoted bullying and I wonder how many minds now assume that it’s OK.

Translated to "not doing what she wanted them to do for the benefit of her game." Which would be a fine game tactic, if not for the bullying. The dynamics in the house have changed since she left the game, and we are actually seeing everyone actually making moves. Moves that they wouldn't make before out of fear of Rachel's abuse. I was rather pleased with her elimination. Many people including her husband said it wasn’t fair. Please tell me what wasn’t fair about it. The house guests played the puzzle as chosen. It could have been any one of the players. Rachel wasn’t even close to finishing it and I don’t think she would have even with more time. She knew going in with a 3-1/2 minute time limit her chances weren’t good. As far as going forward without her in the game, players can now figure out on their own the strategy they should use. Many of the players were Rachel’s puppets. Now they find themselves struggling. By the end, they will have figured out the game of Big Brother.

Rachel has her good qualities, but she intimidated most of the house guests. I've watched every session and her behavior brought her down. She intimidated most of the players with her bossy behavior telling them all what they should do. Glad Ava was able to stand up to her even though it may have been hard. I’ve been watching since Season 1. Rachel was a bully and her fans are bullies. They want to strong arm their way to getting what they want. The majority of the viewership can see her for what she is and we are glad to see her go.
She DEMANDED that she be sent out next on the maze. She just didn’t take into consideration that she couldn’t complete the maze in time. This isn’t anyone else’s fault but hers.

Hard to believe that big of a twist didn't have more build up to the actual show or the results weren't kept secret until its appearance on TV. I think Rachel has been a polarizing person in house this season & somebody in production really messed up . Either they thought Rachel would breeze thru easier or not do it at all. Either way, big moment in game without the messsge being handled properly to viewers.

I have watched BB since the beginning. I love this show. The way they removed Rachel from the show was uncalled for. They should have come up with a better plan. I wanted Rachel and Keanu to be final two. Now that Rachel is in jury I am team Keanu all the way! BB had to remove Rachel from the house without anyone of the players doing the deed. She was creating a mean girl scenario along with Ashley in an attempt to destroy Keanu. He wasn’t doing any of the things she was blaming him for and her attempt to paint him as a man stalking her, raising his voice etc could ruin him after BB.

Her attire on some episodes was totally in appropriate and I wonder what her kids thought of how their mommy looked on TV. This is a game of survival even if you don't like the way someone is playing the game. It comes down to who can con the others in the best way. Everyone in the house is lying To each other getting as many alliances just to get to the end being in the final three. Each person in this game will do what they have to do, and that includes lying back stabbing bullying or whatever you are playing to win it's a game. And I think right now Vince is going to win the game.

Watching rachel reilly try and complete that puzzle made me really realize how dumb she actually was. You can be so good in the mental side of things but couldnt figure out a puzzle a 2nd-3rd grader could have done. People are soft and people get mad when things dont go their way.

My mother for years was telling me about her favorite show called Big Brother. I lived on the west coast while she lived in the Midwest all of that time. I was injured on the job suddenly and had to retreat back to the Midwest, and moved back to the same city as her. So I began cooking dinner with my mother and stay to watch Big Brother with her for about 4 or 5 seasons now. There were some great people on the show and some miserable egos and head cases as well throughout this time. This season though, the show brought back Rachel suddenly, a character I was familiar with from her appearance on a show called Big Brother”Traitors.”
I had no issues with her at first, but it didn’t take long to see how entitled and selfish she was. She continued to call herself the Queen of Big Brother and an idol. She called players that were better than her “newbies,” even after she failed to do the maze that every player completed before her in less than 2:30 seconds.
Before that episode I mentioned to my mother that if Rachel wasn’t eliminated from the show soon, I might have to stop watching Big Brother until next season. Rachel’s failure was my savior. In the future, I hope there are no returning players unless it is a special season where all the players are returning players. Furthermore, please stop bringing back players that have contracts to wear clothing lines and the such.

Rachel is a legend in her own mind. I've watched BB since it first aired. I feel she ruined the season this summer because of her bullying and intimidating the other house guests. They seem too scared to be themselves. If any other house guest had been eliminated during White Locust the people complaining wouldn't have said a thing about it. I don't think they did anything wrong. Rachel didn't stop and listen to the others before her turn. They told her to take it slow. She got cocky and thought she knew what she was doing. That is the reason she lost. When you think your untouchable and Murphy slaps you down. Nobody's fault but your own. Rachel was a bitch and acted like a spoiled child. The other players should have eliminated her sooner. She has already won! I'm disappointed that they bring in past winners. If the other players were true fans they would have got Rachel out sooner. She was terrible on the compitions. That was horrible how she grabbed Ava. Also when she would not let Kenou talk to the HOH alone. If she was a good player her actions should speak for them selves. She was lucky when Kenou was trying to work with her.

I am so glad she is out. I thought she was bullying everyone to play her game and it never showed more than her pulling Ava's arm off during the White locust. It was a little justice that she left at her "own hands" per say when Ava said she didn't pick her first because she put her hands on her and felt no one had the right to put her hands on her. I don't know who gave her the lgend name but she won Big Brother and played again. So did a lot of people.

Glad, in her arrogance and desire to win, she blew it for herself. I doubt, even if she’d been chosen 1st, that she would’ve won. She shewed the way the others played and I didn’t enjoy her flaunting being the Queen and screaming and accusing Keanu of yelling when it was her. She will influence those in jury so the outcome will be interesting. As others have said, this cast is pretty dull.

I was really enjoying this season for a change. You finally have some houseguests with manners and Rachel Reilly was a big asset. Then you went and ruined it with that stupid twist and the way the HOH was picked. You just ruined the whole anticipation of the season and now it's back to a bunch of people who haven't done squat. No excitement any more and I could care less about the ending. Stupid move!

I have seen every episode of every season as it plays out. Not on demand. I have been with big brother from season 1 episode 1 and I have to say if Rachel really isn't the worst player ever. She's definitely in the top 2.... thank God she is gone. She is so obnoxious thinking she is good at this game. She would have never won if her husband hadn't thrown himself on the sword she would have been evicted first. She stinks at comps. She is terrible at the social game. Did you see how she clung on to Keanu in the balance beam comp forcing him to team with her... she bullies houseguests every time there is an eviction. And to boot every season she plays she ends up teaming with the wrong side of the house...thank you god for getting her off our screens!

I think ratings may have gone down because people didn't necessarily like the shake up, or the twist, it was a big change from the usual format and so people are a little bruised about that but they'll be back! I don't think the drop in ratings was so much attributed to Rachel's departure. I for one am glad she is gone. Tired of seeing her face on my screen

I have watched BB since season 1, which although it was the first one, is probably also my favorite because it seems like I recall that it was very authentic and the last seasons seem very scripted and have had me fast-forwarding through a good portion because it has become so predictable and overwhelmingly unrealistically dramatic. I've never been a Rachel fan, almost didn't watch because of her, fast-forwarded majority of her scenes, because she seems narcissistic, entitled, selfish and phony to me, looking for an acting job no doubt and find it very hard to believe she's a highly degreed person. I was glad to finally see her go, can't believe they didn't get rid of her immediately since in the past returnees and especially former winners were seen as huge threats, so again why I think the show honchos really orchestrate the outcomes and prevent it from being a true reality show as it began decades ago making it such a hit from season 1. I truly hope this is the last time Rachel will be on.

I’m glad that by she’s gone. The results of the contest were known to all. Did anyone complain when the white lotus and potential results for 1 person exiting the game were announced? If not, is the issue really that someone other than Rachel didn’t exit? She never won any contest this season- no surprise that she was unable to complete the challenge.

The comments here are full of people who just watch the edited episodes and know very little about how BB works. This is a game breaking twist that makes little sense in a competition where the point is to be voted out by your fellow houseguests. If you eliminate that aspect, then it's no longer Big Brother. Plain and simple. Producers obviously know they messed up with this and were worried about the audience reaction. They cut feeds for nearly 24 hours (that NEVER happens) to try and figure out how to move forward. They know they ruined their season.

This is a misrepresentation of why people are angry - it’s not because Rachel was eliminated. It’s because a player was “eliminated” by a competition/game instead of having the opportunity to use their social game to gain votes and save them. This move, on production’s part, violated the game of Big Brother. It’s disrespectful to the game, to the fans, to the players. Even the players weren’t happy about this - they complained about it a lot on the live feeds. People who love this game don’t want to see it turn into a simple competition show like The Challenge. Rachel has always been the queen of Big Brother to me. She is a great game player and achieved what no one thought she would ever do. Actually get the votes to win Big Brother. Even though Shelly disliked Rachel with a passion she knew that she had the best game play. I have not watched the last couple seasons but did watch this season and now that Rachel is out I am not near as interested as before.

Stopped watching last season, too scripted and too boring and it meeddd renamed to showmance city. Found out RR, (probably for rating boost)was back so gave it another shot, not necessarily a fan but at least something different than showmances, knew she wouldn’t make it till the end but really? I question the HOH competition. It appears that only 4 houseguests got to play, so how was an HOH named? Morgan had the best time out of 3 people? Not legit at all. If Rachel had the worst time out of everyone, then ok, but I question how it was even a fair HOH competition.

I am an avid fan of BB since the first season. This twist was not ok. No one should have been eliminated/evicted like that. This isn’t Reindeer games this is BB. I watched the episode where Rachel got evicted and that was it for me. Haven’t watched anymore til next season
Also I can’t stand Rachel I just don’t think it was fair.
