‘The Crown’ Races Toward Princess Diana’s Tragic End in Season 6 Trailer (VIDEO)

Royal tragedy looms in the official trailer for Part I of The Crown‘s sixth and final season at Netflix as the historical drama places the spotlight on Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki).

Slated to arrive on Thursday, November 16, Part I will feature four hour-long episodes from creator and writer Peter Morgan. The installments will depict the blossoming relationship between Diana and Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) before a fateful car ride with devastating consequences. As teased in the trailer, above, Diana’s popularity continues to rise, as does the press interest in her day-to-day life.

In her first summer post-divorce, Princess Diana and Prince Charles (Dominic West) have two very different holidays with their sons. As she’s being courted by the Fayeds in the South of France, Princess Diana’s trip gives the young Princes William (Rufus Kampa) and Harry (Fflyn Edwards) a taste for luxury yachts, video games, and movie nights.

Meanwhile, Charles sticks to tradition with a trip to Balmoral. As comparisons are made, the tensions are fueled by paparazzi and some of the Royal press team. “Don’t really understand how I ended up here,” Diana says in the trailer. “Dashing around… and losing sight of myself in the process. You know, I think that’s been the story of my whole life.”

We also get a peek at the hounding paparazzi who follow the Princess around on a dinghy while she is confined to yachts. “The press are on our tails constantly,” she complains. Amid the fervor, Diana wishes to return to her boys as the Queen (Imelda Staunton) points out, “All one wants is for that girl to find peace.”

“Mummy, are you okay?” William asks Diana over the phone. “I’m OK… it’s just… it has all been a bit mad recently,” she answers while looking at an invite to Paris. Playing in the background is a cover of the song, “Mad World,” which fits the ominous tone of the two-minute-long preview.

When Diana and Dodi’s fatal car accident occurs, a public outpouring of grief affects the Royal family in different ways and catches the Queen off-guard. “What do people want from me?” she asks. “For you to be mother to the nation,” Charles tells her. The news rocks the family’s world as lights go up at Balmoral in the middle of the night after the world-shattering news.

“This is gonna be the biggest thing that any of us has ever seen,” Charles says through tears.

Four episodes is sure to cover a lot of ground with so much focus on Princess Diana, but rest assured, there are more episodes to round out the final season, with Part II of Season 6 kicking off on Thursday, December 14.

For Season 6 Part I, the cast includes Debicki, West, Staunton, Abdalla, Kampa, Edwards, Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Claudia Harrison, Olivia Williams, Bertie Carvel who steps in as Tony Blair, and Salim Daw.

Don’t miss them onscreen as the series speeds toward its final installments this fall and winter on Netflix.
