We’ve seen plenty Batman stories, but none where the Dark Knight is dead. That’s where The CW‘s Gotham Knights kicks off. And fans get their first glimpse of Misha Collins‘ Harvey Dent, the children of Gotham’s villains, and more in the Gotham Knights trailer, released Tuesday, May 31 by The CW. The series will debut in 2023.

It’s all fun and games as Bruce Wayne’s adopted son, Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan), hosts a party at Wayne Manor until Dent comes knocking with the news that Batman has been murdered, revealing to all of Gotham the Caped Crusader’s true identity. Some suspects are brought in for questioning: Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan), Harper Row (Fallon Smythe), and Cullen Row (Tyler DiChiara), who were hired to break into Wayne’s office, not kill him. One thing they have in common? Their parents are Batman’s enemies, such as the Joker.

Eventually, Turner himself is arrested as a suspect as well. The teens join forces to prove their innocence and restore justice to Gotham, calling themselves the Gotham Knights. Check out the Gotham Knights trailer, below.

Gotham Knights combines DC Comic characters with characters created for the series. Anna Lore plays beloved comic book character Stephanie Brown, who’s briefly featured in the trailer. And Navia Robinson is heavily featured in the trailer as Carrie Kelley, who’s revealed to be one of the few people who knew Batman’s identity — a fact his own son didn’t even know.

“So you knew my dad was Batman,” Morgan says to Robinson in the trailer. Her response reveals even more exciting details.

“I became his eyes and ears,” she says. “He called me his little robin.”

Collins teased what’s to come in the new CW drama at The CW Upfront on May 19, describing how Gotham Knights sets itself apart from other stories in the Batman universe.

“[Turner’s] on the run, but he’s defending Gotham at the same time. He’s a reluctant hero,” Collins told TV Insider. “I think that’s an exciting new take on the Batman universe. And Oscar and our other cast mates are going to be these young, cool, new vigilante justice warriors. It’s going to be great.”

Gotham Knights also stars Rahart Adams and is created by Batwoman writers Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash. It’s not connected to Batwoman or the Gotham Knights video game. The series is executive produced by Fiveash, Stoteraux, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. Abrams serves as co-executive producer. And Danny Cannon serves as director and executive producer on the pilot.
