The trailer for Apple TV+‘s upcoming espionage series Slow Horses is here and teases some darkly humored cloak and dagger drama.

Based on Mick Herron’s best-selling first novel, Slow Horses stars Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but irascible MI5 intelligence agent who is put in charge of a team of dysfunctional spies. The six-episode drama is set to premiere globally with the first two episodes on Friday, April 1, followed by one episode weekly, every Friday.

The series revolves around Lamb’s ragtag unit, who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes. They now find themselves blundering through the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world. “Only screw-ups get sent to Slough,” Oldman tells his new team in the trailer. “Working with you has been the lowest point of a disappointing career.”

In addition to Oldman, the cast includes Oscar-nominee Kristin Scott Thomas, BAFTA Scotland Award-winner Jack Lowden, Olivia Cooke, Saskia Reeves, Dustin Demri-Burns, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Paul Higgins, Freddie Fox, Chris Reilly, Steve Waddington, Paul Hilton, Antonio Aakeel, Peter Judd, and a special guest appearance by Oscar-nominee Jonathan Pryce.

The series is produced by See-Saw Films and adapted for television by Will Smith (Veep), who executive produces alongside Graham Yost. Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux, and Douglas Urbanski also serve as executive producers, as well as James Hawes, who directs all six episodes.

Oldman, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in Darkest Hour, most recently starred in the 2021 action comedy film Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and the psychological thriller The Woman in the Window. Slow Horses marks his first scripted television role since his appearance as Richard Crosby in a 2001 episode of Friends.
