Lisa Edelstein Leaving ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ After 2 Seasons

Lisa Edelstein is bidding farewell to 9-1-1: Lone Star as she is set to exit the Fox procedural drama for good in the next episode.
According to Variety, Edelstein, who plays Gwyneth Morgan in the 9-1-1 spinoff series, will make her final goodbyes in Episode 8, ‘In the Unlikely Event of an Emergency,’ slated to air on February 28. The exit was teased on Monday’s episode when Gwyneth’s son, T.K. Strand (Ronen Rubinstein), received a phone call informing him that his mother had been killed.
Gwyneth’s death was not shown on screen on Monday’s episode and viewers are expected to see her one more time next week before she departs the series permanently. It is sure to be an emotional moment for both fans at home and the characters on screen.
Edelstein joined the series in the second season, playing Owen Strand’s (Rob Lowe) ex-wife and T.K.’s mother, who arrives in Austin after her son’s hospitalization. She had a recurring role in Season 2 and is listed as a guest star in the currently airing third season.
Perhaps best known for portraying Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the Fox medical drama House, Edelstein’s other roles include Abby McCarthy in the Bravo series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Patty in the NBC sitcom Leap of Faith, Laurie “Brittany” Rollins in the political drama The West Wing, and Cindy McCauliff in Fox legal comedy-drama Ally McBeal.
“Life is never one thing. And it’s relentless. I wanted Gwyn’s death to happen the way these sometimes do — out of the blue and without fanfare,” 9-1-1: Lone Star showrunner Tim Minear told Variety. “It comes at a moment for T.K. when things are good. He and Carlos are at the next level. His fire family has been reunited. His mother’s death is a game changer for T.K. But also for Owen and Carlos.
He added: “The way T.K. deals with this loss and grief will tell us a lot about where he is and where he came from. And Owen will have his own reckoning with his past with Gwyn.”

Maybe money? 911-Lonestar has a reasonably large payroll…
Lisa was a bigger star on House, a major part of that series for 7 years and left abruptly before what turned out to be the final season-with plenty of her story left to tell if she’d stayed.
But that series had apparently come under the budget cut knife -which sometimes happens after 7 seasons. Not that she wasn’t worth what she and her management were asking during her contact renegotiation-but the House producers had a different take. They didn’t kill her off (as 911 did) but she was notably MIA for the series finale. No love lost or too high a price tag..or both.
On 911 it might be many things- another project beckoning her (?), lack of development for her character, general storyline stuff etc. Just…money may have been one of the reasons.
I like Lisa E a lot and hope she turns up somewhere else soon.

I'm definitely sad because I love Lisa Edelstein, granted the show holds up on it's own, she is one of the reasons I decided to start watching! Now I don't know how to feel to much tragedy for TK and Owen 💔

Personally, I think it's because they want Owen to be dating more and it was never the plan to have Lisa be on for more than a few guest appearances as his ex. Only, when she did, and everybody loved her so much, the audience wanted her to get back together with him. So, now that he's made a few new "dating" attempts on the show, viewers may be expressing a desire that he reconnect with Lisa's character. They did have great chemistry and, for a while there, it felt like they could easily get back together. Seems the case of a storyline hiccup = a rather extreme solution!
Bit clunky, though, especially her ending up having another man's baby, and all. Wasn't as well thought out as I would have liked... and now to just have her character die. Well, a bit of a hiccup in the show's writing, if you ask me. I'm still a fan though and love both 9-1-1's. Happy they spread out the shows so I get fresh episodes to watch in more months of the year than so many other series do, these days. They got that part very right!!!

I will certainly miss her character. She always added something to the stories, and she's such a good actress. She added some quality time to the show, and I hope the show will continue to keep that quality up.

I feel really bad about her leaving and I Hope that TK doesn't go back to drugs. It would have been nice if his little brother was his dad's son also. So what happens to the baby? And Captain Strain. He did love her and I know he's going to take it hard to She brought flavor to Captain Strands life and the show she'll be missed.
