‘How I Met Your Father’: Who Do You Want to Be the Father? (POLL)
In the How I Met Your Father premiere, we find out that the night shown in the present day is when the show’s title event happened for Sophie (Hilary Duff). And based on the first three episodes it would seem that there are five possibilities for who’s the daddy.
As the older Sophie (Kim Cattrall) shares that information about that night with her son, viewers see four candidates: Sid (Suraj Sharma), Jesse (Chris Lowell), Ian (Daniel Augustin), and Charlie (Tom Ainsley). But that’s just the beginning, considering that present-day Sophie subsequently finds out that she briefly met Drew (Josh Peck) that night as well. And after that was revealed, anything seems possible.
After all, as showrunner Elizabeth Berger told TV Insider, “Take her at her word that that night is the night she met him. But there’s the possibility that other stuff happened that night that we haven’t yet focused on.”
Ian was the guy who seemed perfect for Sophie by the time they met in-person after chatting on Tinder… if only he didn’t move to Australia that same night and reject her when she chased him down at the airport. Jesse was her Uber driver on her way to that date, and Sid, his best friend, was along for the ride on his way to his engagement. Sophie met Charlie as her roommate and best friend Valentina’s (Francia Raisa) boyfriend. And she then met vice principal Drew through Jesse.
While it seems like Jesse may be the One and they just have a long journey ahead of them before she moves him out of the friend zone, that doesn’t mean he’s the Father. Similar logic can be applied to Drew: Just because Sophie’s with him now doesn’t mean that they stay together. In fact, because Sophie’s with him now and it’s so early on in the series, the probability of him being the Father seems low, unless they break up and then get back together. Future Sophie did tell her son that she gets with a lot of guys before ending up with his father. Now, that could refer to all the many failed dates she’s mentioned, but we have a feeling it instead means we’ll see her in at least a couple relationships on-screen.
