Apple TV+ has given a series order to Mrs. American Pie, a new comedy from creator Abe Sylvia starring Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern.

The 10-episode season will tell the story of Maxine Simmons (Wiig), who is attempting to secure a seat at “America’s most exclusive table” among Palm Beach’s high society. This comedy about gorgeously impossible people will see Maxine attempt to cross an impenetrable line between the haves and have-nots.

The series asks the questions that many still have today, which is, who gets a seat at the table? How do you get a seat at the table? And what will you sacrifice for a seat at the table? Mrs. American Pie explores this mystery during the pivotal era of the early ’70s.

Mrs. American Pie is based on the novel by Juliet McDaniel and is being developed for television by Laura Dern and her producing partner Jayme Lemons who serve as executive producers on the project under their Jaywalker Pictures banner. Abe Sylvia is currently attached as a writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Also executive producing the series are director Tate Taylor, John Norris, and Katie O’Connell Marsh.

This series will mark Dern’s first live-action TV role since Season 2 of HBO‘s Emmy-winning hit Big Little Lies. She also currently voices Sue Murphy in Netflix‘s animated comedy F is for Family. Wiig’s most recent TV role includes Peacock‘s MacGruber, a follow-up to the 2010 movie based on the iconic Saturday Night Live sketch alongside Will Forte.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new project as Mrs. American Pie takes shape at Apple TV+.
