‘Gaslit’: Julia Roberts Transforms in First Trailer for Starz Drama (VIDEO)
Starz is giving viewers a first look at its star-studded limited series Gaslit as the network unveiled a premiere date and trailer for the drama starring Julia Roberts during their TCA presentation.
Additionally, they’re also teasing Roberts’ and her costars’ startling transformations with sneak peek images that also feature Sean Penn, Dan Stevens, and Betty Gilpin among others. Set to premiere Sunday, April 24 across all Starz platforms, Gaslit is a political thriller chronicling the true story of Martha Mitchell (Roberts).
As teased in the trailer, below, Gaslit is a modern take on Watergate that focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal ranging from Nixon’s subordinates and the zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the whistleblowers who would eventually bring the empire crashing down.
Most of the story will center on Martha Mitchell, a big personality with an even bigger mouth. The wife of Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell (Penn), Martha is one of the first people to sound a public alarm regarding Nixon’s involvement with Watergate.
Her whistleblowing causes both the presidency and her personal life to unravel as her husband John is forced to choose between her and the president. Joining Roberts and Penn in the series are Stevens as John Dean, Gilpin as Mo Dean, Shea Whigham as G. Gordon Liddy, and Darby Camp as Marty Mitchell.
Based on the first season of the critically acclaimed podcast, Slow Burn, the series is created and executive produced by Robbie Pickering. Joining him as an executive producer is director Matt Ross, Sam Esmail, Roberts, Lisa Gillan, Marisa Yeres Gill, Gabriel Roth, and Josh Levin. Meanwhile, podcast creator Leon Neyfakh serves as a consultant on the series. Check out the first look, below, and mark your calendars for the arrival of Gaslit on Starz.
