An artist defined in some ways by the power of second chances, Hugh Dillon was born in Kingston, Canada in 1963. Though the drama teacher at this preparatory school sparked his interest, Dillon was more attracted to what he described as the comparatively less disciplined activity of making music with his friends. After a year at Queens University, he was kicked out for drug use and spent a year in London, England, busking on the street for money, playing his own songs. He returned to Canada to form the rock band The Headstones, who landed a record deal in 1993. They released the album Picture of Health that same year, and began growing in popularity, even as Dillon began to receive acting opportunities, starring in Bruce McDonald's drama "Dance Me Outside" (1995). Another Headstones album came in 1996, Smile and Wave, along with another starring role, this time in McDonald's punk rock road trip film "Hard Core Logo" (1996). This pattern would continue as Dillon appeared in "Johnny" (1999) and then The Headstones released The Oracle of Hi-Fi in 2002. Unfortunately, Dillon was struggling with drug addiction during much of this time. Though he attended rehab a total of five times, he would relapse every time the band embarked on another tour. And so, The Headstones disbanded in 2003, and Dillon abandoned the entertainment industry. He was chopping trees in Northern Canada when he was offered the role of Bob opposite Vera Farmiga in Debra Granik's "Down to the Bone" (2004). He formed a new band, Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir, and continued acting as well. A big break for Dillon came when he was cast in the starring role of Ed Lane on the series "Flashpoint" (CTV, 2008-2012). Sober and successful, Dillion reunited with The Headstones for Love + Fury. He also joined the cast of "The Killing" (AMC, 2011-14) throughout season 3. He also began starring on the series "X Company" (CBC, 2015-) and took on the recurring role of Lt. Sutton on the SyFy series "The Expanse" (Syfy, 2015-).
