Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is almost here, sending The Big Bang Theory‘s lovable B-team on a wild sci-fi multiverse adventure that somehow leaves them responsible for saving humanity and every reality that has ever existed. It’s a tall order for a comic book store owner, his lady friend, a shy geologist, and a physicist with a notoriously sarcastic streak.

Before we dive into this bizarre alternate corner of The Big Bang Theory universe, though, let’s take a look back at where we last left Stuart, Denise, Bert, and Barry, and how their stories set the stage for the franchise’s most ambitious spinoff yet.

Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman)

Stuart Bloom’s final appearance in The Big Bang Theory was in Season 12 Episode 22, “The Maternal Conclusion.” The last time audiences saw Stuart, he and his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus) decided to fully commit to the relationship and agreed to move in together. He seemed happy, but that can change.

Denise (Lauren Lapkus)

Introduced in Season 11 as the assistant manager of Stuart’s comic book store, Denise quickly became one of the gang’s newest friends and eventually Stuart’s girlfriend. By the series finale, the couple was still happily together, with Denise continuing to work at the comic book store. She and Stuart decided to take their relationship to the next level when we last saw her.

Bert Kibbler (Brian Posehn)

Before the finale, Bert was in a minor scooter accident after buying Howard’s wheels, but he met a nice nurse at the hospital and asked her out. Sadly, it didn’t seem to work out as in his final appearance in the series finale, Bert agreed to look after Raj’s dog Cinnamon while Raj was away for Sheldon and Amy’s Nobel Prize Award ceremony as a means to pick up girls.

"The Relationship Diremption" -- Sheldon faces a personal crisis after deciding heÕs wasting his time with string theory, on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Thursday, April 10 (8:00-8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie)

Appearing in 25 episodes across all 12 seasons, Kripke was a frequent thorn in Sheldon’s side. His final appearance came in the penultimate episode, Season 12 Episode 23, “The Change Constant,” when he prank-called Sheldon and Amy pretending to be the Nobel committee. The series never revisited the character after that, so there’s no indication that anything changed for him. He is probably still at Caltech and annoying Sheldon when he can.

Wil Wheaton (Wil Wheaton)

Wil Wheaton’s final appearance on The Big Bang Theory was in Season 12 Episode 16, “The D & D Vortex.” In this episode, he hosted a celebrity Dungeons & Dragons game featuring William Shatner, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Smith, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Though initially considered an antagonist, he ended up a friend of Sheldon’s and even officiated his wedding to Amy.

Won't be able to watch on HBO Max so hope it lasts long enough for DVD sets!
