‘Bloodaxe’ First Look: ‘Vikings’ Creator Returns With a New Norse Saga
The creator of Vikings returns with a new Viking drama putting to screen one of history’s most famous Norse raiders and his formidable wife. Prime Video has revealed a first look at Bloodaxe, starring Xavier Molyneux and Bridgerton‘s Jessica Madsen. Bloodaxe Season 1 doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but it’s slated for an early 2027 release and is already renewed for Season 2, which is currently in production in Ireland.
In Season 1, Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux), and his formidable wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Madsen) “fight for the throne of Norway,” the logline says. “The land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom, drawing in the ruthless Kings of other Scandinavian countries, and even a powerful English ruler, the stage is set for a thundering, cataclysmic, compelling, and utterly magical new Norse Saga.”
