Drew Goes Shopping

At San Francisco’s Fireclay Tile, Drew selects an unusual picket shape for the master bathroom floor and wall tile. “Anyone doing DIY should go to specialty stores,” Drew says. “They can easily point out products to maximize the look of your space without overloading your budget.”

Jonathan Goes Shopping

Jonathan chooses the color scheme for a living wall made of dyed reindeer moss at Planted Design in Oakland, CA. “It’s perfect for my house’s eco chic style,” he says.

Drew’s Work in Progress

Drew lays the tile in an unexpected braided pattern. It’s glazed to his specifications in a bold blue to offset the space’s white and wood look. “You wanna add wow factor to every room,” he says.

Jonathan’s Work in Progress

Jonathan installs the seven-by-seven foot natural artwork. “You see it when you walk in the door and it makes a jaw-dropping first impression along with the 12-foot ceiling,” Jonathan says. “You only find features like this in multimillion-dollar resorts.”

“The preserved moss doesn’t need to be watered so it’s as eco-friendly as the organic bamboo flooring and the house’s solar power system,” Jonathan says.

The blue and white tiles brighten the space.

“The dated, dingy shower was closed off from the rest of the bathroom and made the room look half the size,” Drew says. “I opened it up with glass walls so the tile becomes a feature.”
