The Exorcist

September 23, 9/8c, Fox

New family (led by Geena Davis), new priests (Ben Daniels and Alfonso Herrera, left), but the same old devil wreaking havoc in Fox’s take on the legendary 1973 Linda Blair film. Judging from the solid (and super scary) pilot, this is one thrill ride we’re ready to jump on.
The Rising

September 23, 8/7c, CBS

He’s been Taylor Swift’s beau (“You Belong With Me” video) and an X-Man. Now Lucas Till stars in this actioner about Angus MacGyver’s early years. The series also stars George Eads (CSI) and is exec produced by Peter Lenkov, who knows a thing or two about rebooting a franchise (Hawaii Five-0).

October 2, 9/8c, HBO

Michael Crichton’s 1973 cult film about a Wild West amusement park populated by rogue cyborgs gets bigger on the small screen thanks to producers J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, who directed the pilot, and an impressive cast (Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, left, among others).

Training Day

Midseason, CBS

Bill Paxton is a, let’s just say unconventional, L.A. cop who puts a trainee (newcomer Justin Cornwell, far left, with Paxton) through the paces. Antoine Fuqua, director of the 2001 Denzel Washington film, is on board and producing along with Jerry Bruckheimer.
